May 12, 201214 yr  getting to be quite a mystery.    I have a little block plane. This little plane seems to screech (LOUDLY) everytime I use it.   Nicknamed the Death Star Planebecause of that front knob.     maybe an "X" wing figther is flying around inside it?     Seems every time I try to use this plane, a LOUD screech comes out of it.   It does NOT chatter, nor leave any chatter marks. My other two blockplanes just go along quietly, with a muted Swoosh.   This Mohawk-Shelburne plane, though, almost screams.  Nothing under the iron, bed is clear.  Blade is sharpened up.  Everything is tightened down.   Still get that screech, though.   maybe, is that Darth Vader, stomping around inside?   this plane is all Black and silver, maybe an Old Oakland Raider trying to get out?    Nah, Jack Tatum never screeched. Just a mystery, i guess.    maybe a book title?    "For whom the plane screamed"????    Neanderthal Best Seller??? May 12, 201214 yr blade sharp? Then try a little wax on bottom.Although i thought "for whom the plane screams " was quite apropo. " It screams for Thee "
May 12, 201214 yr Author Going back out there today, we'll see what "Holmes & Watson" say about it. Will do a test piece, using the three block planes.   Something is making that Star Wars Plane screech like a Light Sabre.  I was using it on beech, so, we'll see how it does on old pine 2xs.   If I'm lucky, should have more on that workbench later today...... May 12, 201214 yr by the way, put your finger on the frog and see if that might be vibrating. the frog didn't look like it was completely square on the blade.Â
May 13, 201214 yr Author  I found the screecher!!!    One little grain of a piece of a shaving, sitting under the iron where it "beds" to the base.   Remove the critter, no more noise.   When i went to remove the cap iron, the dang thing "snapped' at me!    Got the cap off, and the iron, ...... lookee there........a grain of junk!    Death Star Plane is now very well behaved, thank you.
