Need some advice re: box hardware

Featured Replies

After the present run of BSBs are done, I'm going to build a pistol/ammo briefcase for my son. So, I'll be looking for hinges, corner protectors, locking latches and a leather wrapped handle.

I'm thinking that a piano hinge would suffice but I'm open to better ideas. I've been searching the net and it seems that pricing is all over the place but how to judge quality from a web page????

So, where do you folks who use box hardware go for quality brass goods....and nice handles?

Thanks, Charles. Are you referring to the kind that fold and fasten to the inside of the case and lid?

BTW, did the new style of stoppers come in?

Charles, We are definitely not the type of wine drinkers that will only buy from certain vineyards. Heck, Two Buck Chuck from Pier One doesn't offend our Palates.Grin.gif Make 'em how ever you want.

Wood and Turquoise is boxed. Stuck in some 3/4 + Mesquite for you to play with. Just got to get to the PO.

I'm with Mark.  Woodcraft has great quality and you can access it from our home page.

Gene Woodworkers supply has a great line of hardware as well as Woodcraft. For a clean look depending on the wall thickness of the case I'd go with barrel hinges.

White Chapel Great people too. Once while chatting about a hinge I wanted the owner offered to send me a selection to choose from and I would keep and pay for  only the ones I wanted.

Service.

When I need quality hardware, I normally go to Lee Valley. Not the Chinese crud other sell. I have never been left down by any of my orders there. The brass screws don't break off even when pre-drilled. You may want to consider a friction device so when opened the case stay open. Please post pictures along they way, should prove to be a delightful read and educational also.
