My Shops..

Featured Replies

Somewhere awhile back I seen a post (show us your shop) I went back through a number of past posts and cannot find this post?

below are photo's and link to my shops now and in the past.

My first big shop was my 26' X 26' garage when I puchased my home in April 2001. I had been building and doing woodworking for local folks since 1996, but never anything as big as it has grown to today.

In April of 2008 I purchased this building (on the cheap) in Waverly IL and work out of here today. in Febraury 2010 I purchased 2.5 acres with a large garage (you'll see in the photo's) I am still working to get this place set up and moved into.

link is to my first too shops you'll see how quick I out grew the 26 X 26 garage once I was Medically retired out of service. I took my hobby to a business.

John,

I'm normally recieving 3-5 orders a week some are pretty good sized orders.. as far as web traffic. anywhere from 100-250 hits a day. I recently signed up to do government contracting through GSA. (that was a chore, took me over 1 1/2 weeks to get signed up through different agencies and still have allot to learn on this new adventure) but a GSA agent contacted me directly and a customer stationed in Afghanistan wanted to go through GSA to place an order  with me. he specifically requested my displays. one of the largest single orders I'd ever taken on. I purchased 64 bd ft of lumber for this project (running my wood supplier out of Red Oak lumber) May 3rd, we went to work on this project. May 14th DHL came by my shop and picked up 5 boxes, each had 3 displays in them. May 17th those 5 boxes were sitting at an Airport in Afghanistan waiting for pick-up. once they recieved them, the customer from over there emailed me directly to let me know they had all arrived with no damage and they looked great and will be ordering another 15 more shortly. (I was worried as anyone would be with the shipping to this location, never shipped or worked with DHL before and damage can be costly on my end. couple years ago I stopped shipping through Fed-Ex do to damage and loss charges) in the meantime I emailed this customer back and let him know we only had 12 bd ft of Red Oak remaining and my wood supplier would not have more coming out of the Kiln until June. he requested photo's of other displays I've done in different woods. So we will see how busy this working with GSA can get? might be able to hire another person or two? Grin.gifning-011-29172-20.jpg?width=721
