This video may or may not be worth while. You see, there is something wrong with my sound and I can't hear what is said. But since this is an Ebony thread and the video is something about Ebony I though I post it anyway.

That is very interesting Rich, thanks for posting. Mr Taylor has a great point, look, we can whine and cry about the days of the past, pitch black ebony is almost a myth now, or we can embrace the multi colored ebony the forest has now. Really what choice do we have? The color is different, the density and characteristics are the same. I'll take it!

Seems to  me that this would be a very very fertile  area of endeavor for some molecular biologist to undertake.   GM trees that   grow like crazy of the more valuable species.   They have already done it for pulp trees.
