June 12, 201214 yr Those terms refer to different types of wrought iron  strap hinges. If i'm not mistaken. No greater Loves than God, Family, Friends, country, the sight of flying chips and the smell of saw dust.
June 12, 201214 yr Russell is correct. "Ball & Spear", "Heart" and "Bean" are 3 of the standard designs of the decorative ends of old fashioned forged iron strap hinges. There are a number of different designs other than these, but these are the primaries. June 12, 201214 yr Oh well guess I'm dumber than I thought, was not going to post so early in the week. Just to see what everyone else thought it might be. (trying not to ruin the fun)  some one told me to go ahead and post it anyway. oh well was not the correct answer anyway. No greater Loves than God, Family, Friends, country, the sight of flying chips and the smell of saw dust.
June 12, 201214 yr Author Easy Russell!!!! You did good buddy! I am in an incredibly joking mood this morning. I saw a Horton Brass catalog that prompted this weeks Quiz. Great job guys. Hope I didn't frazzle too many folks with my poor taste in humor this morning! Now, lets all settle down and have a great day! June 12, 201214 yr The only reason that I knew this one was that back when I was doing research trying to find period hardware for the Arts & Crafts bathroom vanity I made last year I scoured the internet for period hardware. I learned quite a bit about the differences in the hardware as many of the details in the pieces became the signatures of the craftsmen as well as being decorative. Allen WorshamCorona, CAallenworsham@earthlink.nethttp://www.awcreationsandwoodcrafts.com'Graze in every man's field, but always give your own milk' J.
