June 11, 201214 yr My Grizzly 18 ga brad nailer seems to have died right in the middle of a project. I was putting up some trim in the house on Saturday and using the brad nailer to put the molding around a door I was hanging. I had already shot several nails when all of a sudden the ram that pushes the nail out comes and and sticks in the molding. It didn't push a nail out and there were nails in the gun. No jam but it appears the ram is not going all the way back up after pushing a nail out. I took the front off and got the ram back up which didn't seem to be in any type of bind. Put it all back together and shot another nail. One nail and then the ram stays out again. Won't go back up unless I take the front off the gun. It has been oiled so I really don't have any idea what has happened.I bought this brad nailer about five years ago when it was on sale at Grizzly for 18.95. I have gotten my moneys worth out of it, but they don't list this one anymore and I sure did like the size. It was very dependable until now. Never had a jam and worked like a charm.I guess I will be looking for another one unless I can determine what has happened with the ram on this one.It looks like on their site the 18ga one is now a brad /stapler and the prices is 32.95. I know I have a lot of work and need a new 18ga nailer quick.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
June 11, 201214 yr Please accept my condolences on your loss. We always need that tool that breaks the most at the time, don't we? My present one is a Senco. It's great....so far. It replaced a Bostitch. Also a good one. But, either one is a bit more costly than $35.00. Good luck!Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. June 11, 201214 yr John,You might consider calling Grizzly and asking them if they have any ideas on how to fix the one you have. Not sure if they have a service department for those type of issues. Might be worth a try.No greater Loves than God, Family, Friends, country, the sight of flying chips and the smell of saw dust.
June 11, 201214 yr That sucks John! I have a Senco but mine is oil-less but I've had it for 8 years and never any troubles. Is there any chance that the ram track may have some debris in it that you could clean and re-assemble?
June 11, 201214 yr Mike,Didn't know they made an oil-less one. That would be handy. But, every air tool I have takes oil. I keep a qt. squirt bottle at the ready.Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton

June 11, 201214 yr I didn't know either until I started reading the instruction manual when I was about to lube it for it's first use. I also installed a separator in my airline for my Makita oiled compressor so there wasn't any chance it would get any oil in it.   Gene Howe said:Mike,Didn't know they made an oil-less one. June 11, 201214 yr Author I didn't see anything if there Mike when I took it apart. It seems to move up and down without any problems with the face off, but I don't see anything on the inside of the face that would cause it to hang. I may break it down again and see.Grizzly has a customer Service Dept, but they were closed last night. I just haven't gotten on the phone to call them yet today.Mike Dillen said:That sucks John! June 11, 201214 yr Author Gene, you are so right. It seems nothing ever breaks that you don't use. Just when you are using it and in the middle of something you don't have any extra time, it will jump up and bit you.Oh well I guess I can't fuss about it too much since I really didn't pay a lot for it, but boy did it work great while it lasted.Ron, I think I hear that, or Beth says it is the ringing that is always in my ears.
