June 15, 201214 yr Getting ready to make up 2 headboards (queen for my wife and I and a full for my daughter) and a door for our bathroom in the master bedroom. My wife wanted something more rustic in appearance so we decided to go with reclaimed wood. We went down this morning to a dealer and got 78 BF of Douglas Fir that was recycled from an 1800's building. It has quite a bit of character with some great grain and nail holes. These boards have had all the metal removed but have not been sanded at all. Now I have to lay things out and do a few sample runs through the sander as I need to clean up the surface a bit but not go too deep. June 16, 201214 yr Oh yeah! Â That is pretty wood. I'm not sure that I'd want to sand it. I like the mill marks and gouges. Though all the metal has been removed, I'd still want to pressure wash it to get the grit out. Sand can play havoc with saw and jointer blades.
