June 20, 201214 yr Had some cash in my pocket, and stopped at a house on the way home.   House was the site of a yard sale last weekend.    He STILL had those three handplanes, just sitting in a cardboard box, on the floor of his garage.    "How about $60 for all three?" "Ok, sold!' Loaded up that old box, a heavy box at that. Got home after the fourth 12 hour workday of the weekend, and SIXTH in eight days,    Carried that box, my lunch box, and a week's worth of new uniforms into the house.   After a couple "Brewskis" to settle down, I took a look at these little treasures. A union frog sitting on a 13-1/2" long base, with a Diamond Edge iron on it.  Not too bad. butThat is NOT a chip out on the sides, this is a Stanley "Sweetheart" S4 smooth plane,    Steel base, instead of the usual cast iron.  No cracks, rust, or pits.    And the third member of this mob?well, this is a look at it's frog.  as for the "rest of the story"...Broken tote, but that is a flat sided BEDROCK 606 smooth bottom Stanley, with a sweetheart iron.   The jack is already on eBay, I have enough jacks right now.   The S4 and the 606 will be heading off to upstate New York this weekend.  I still have TWO #6s on the way to the shop.    A Bailey #6 smooth bottom plane, AND a Diamond Edge DE6 with a groovy bottom.  Spent a little cash, and will make a littl bit extra cash.    The American Way? June 20, 201214 yr Author Near as I can tell , the guy never used them.   He did paint them up all nice and shiny, and polished the brass.   Yard sale prices were in the $24-28 per plane range.    Got too many planes now, so the S4 and the 606 were sold this morning, for about double what I paid for them.   The jack ( I do have FIVE at the shop) went on eBay yesterday.   About that Bedrock:  If I didn't already have two other #6s on the way here, I might have kept it.   I have a Bailey #6 smooth bottom on the way, and a Diamond Edge DE6c on the way.  The S4?  i have at least four other #4s in house, and trying to sell the M-F #9 right now.  trying to thin the "Herd" a bit.    Just can't seem to pass a good deal, though.....
