June 29, 201214 yr Can you believe that we are half way through a year? Wow! Here it is HOT all over the country so that may be limiting some of the woodworking. Last night when I got home, the shop was about 91 degrees since it had been closed up all day and the air was not on. I decided to retreat to the recliner where the temps were better and catch up on some DVR time.So here we are with the 4th of July staring us in the face for the middle of next week. In many areas fireworks have been cancelled with the heat and dry conditions. We are waiting on an official word here. They actually pull a barge in the middle of the Tennessee river here and shoot them from it. So at this time we are not sure if they still intend on that happening or not.So what about shop time this weekend. I will get very little time this weekend as I will be working my day job this weekend. Changing out some equipment that has to be done when we can shut down. But I do plan a little time in the shop to make a few small items. I am in need of turning some seam rippers and I have a few bowl blanks that I may just get to chuck up and spin. I also want to spend a little time with the scroll saw and cut out some of the waving American Flags. I believe Mike Dillion make one here a while back. I would like to have one on the door for the 4th. Other than that, it may be a quite shop weekend for me.How about you all, what are your plans? Will you be woodworking, BBQing, working around the house, HDL, yard work, pool time, chilling or doing your favorite recreational activity. You know how we are, we want to know what you are doing. Share your weekend plans with us.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
June 29, 201214 yr I'll be working hard, at hardly working. In reallity it depends upon what the weather will allow....  Hopefully we get the rain that is in the forecast. Otherwise I'll be dragging 450 ft. of hose around again to water the trees, flowers, garden etc.... The lawn will have to wait for rain, 2 1/4 acres is more than the well will handle.  On the bright side I don't have to mow.  Larry Old Woodworking Machinery Forum Host
June 29, 201214 yr Thanks for asking John! Well for us, absolutely nothing with wood!We are heading to the county fair tomorrow, and Sunday will be services in the morning, and we plan on just being lazy all the rest of the day, watching movie rentals, and eating junk all day, the kids love this now and then. It's just too danged hot to do anything right now, the county fair is by the ocean so it will be a nice cool retreat for us tomorrow.John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Wounded Warrior Project and Homes For Our Troops

July 1, 201214 yr A little late but. Today we celebrated my youngest grand daughters birthday, Lexi turn 3 . After was a graduation party for some folks at our church.. Tomorrow will be what ever the wife wants. It is our 34 wedding anniversary. If she don't to do anything, then maybe work on the front yard since it's been in need for a while. Hopefully we will get a break in record heat too. Wayne MahlerGod bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.
July 1, 201214 yr Thanks, John! Here is the prototype. No finish. May make some slight dimension changes. Sapele and Maple just for contrast. Will hang on the wall. The rolling pin is a prototype also, before I learned to keep the knot segments "in line"John Moody said: Sounds Interesting Lew. July 1, 201214 yr Well I was going to do some things around the shop, cleanup the new used lathe a good friend gave us, get the kiln back up and running (long story of careless absent minded behavior on my end) well not sooo long just dumb and embarrassing. BUT... a nice bid live oak cant dropped on my thumb has relegated me to hanging out inside with my bride. And that is a good weekend too
July 2, 201214 yr Thanks for the kind words, Charles!Charles Nicholls said:I don't know how I missed this post before but I have to say I love the design even the holder/rack is cool. I wish i had the tools to make rolling pins this way but oh well I only need a bed extension to make less fancy ones. Maybe I can get that extension in a few months. It always seems to get pushed aside for more necessary things. Great job Lew!Lewis Kauffman said:Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins!
