July 3, 201213 yr  Just about done on a re-hab of a large plane.    I had a "Bobtailed" KK7 come into the house not long agoA little rusty, paint wasn't that great, rear handle (tote) was broken.  The sole looked good, thoughSo, maybe a good clean-up?    Ordered a new tote in a trade for one of my lever caps.   Stripped the parts off the plane, and wire brushed it all down.    Picked up a can of "Klean Strip" Premium Paint stripper.   Just spray it on, let it set for a while, scrap off to bare metal.   Put the knob in the drill press and spun cleaned it smooth.  The frog is by Union Mfg Co.  The iron and chip breaker were Stanleys(??) So, since I had some extra parts from a destroyed DE6,  I used the iron and breaker from it.  The Stanley was a might bit too narrow, the DE iron was just right.   Masked the parts that didn't need paint I went and paint both the KK7 frog and the DE6 frog, the only difference being the adjuster wheel having different threads.   KK7 was right hand threads, DE6 (newer??) was left handed.   Started to put things back together...And waited on a cherry tote to show up.   Finally showed up, and spent awhile today making a Stanley style tote fit onto a Union style base.   Holes were quite lined up, had to carve things a bit.    Angled the main bolt hole a bit, and the tote FINALLY got fastened down..getting a "suntan" before a coat of oil gets rubbed in.  Thinking about a new avatar, and The bandit suggested I use this one.. Yep, I got those blue eyes as well..... 'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
July 4, 201213 yr What you can do with old, rusty "junk". Still have one sitting in the garage that needs a "work over". It's starting to call my name so I may have to look it over. It was one of my Dad's and I can remember "using" Â it when I was a kid.(way too long ago) Harry BrinkBulldog WoodworkingMontana
