Dust collector question?

Featured Replies

I currently have a Rockler Dust Right DC connected with a sperator that operates at 650 CFM (advertised). On my Delta Uni-saw it just doesn't collect enough dust and dust comes out between the table and the cabinet and other openings. I've tried sealing the gaps but it really has no effect and I thought maybe the reason was just poor design of the saw but now I'm of the mind that the reason is not enough CFM from the DC. In my search for a replacement DC I've come across many high reviews on the HF 2hp dust collector and with the addition of a Wynn cartridge .5 micron filter it does a great job. The DC sells for $199.00 and the cartridge filter for $150.00. I really hate buying anything from Harbor Freight but the nearest competitors DC is several hundred dollars more and with the wife not working any longer I can't afford anything higher. The HF advertises 1550 CFM which I'm sure it doesn't perform nearly that High but if it pulls at least 1200 CFM that would be a big bang for the buck and enough to evacuate the dust from the cabinet. Do any of you have any experience or suggestions?

Mike, I have had the same issue with my table saw, and my dust collector is sucking really hard at the TS, so there is not issue with CFM to the TS. But the fact of the matter is that there are just too many openings to make this work. I had the same concern as you, I noticed that the sawdust was not being evacuated out of the cabinet. Fact of the matter is, I don't know if it's possible. Here is something to consider before sealing every opening you can find in your cabinet, the motor needs to run cool!

The best I think we can hope for is that the vac pulls the dust down from the table top, in other words the dust should not be flying out of the insert as you cut or when you fire it up. If you get zero dust coming off the top of the TS, consider it a win. Let the dust accumulate at the bottom, then once a week you sweep it in the hose with your hands. No big deal. But I hear ya man, but at the same time, I think folks are expecting too much out of their DC when it comes to the Table Saws.

Yep, I'm with John.  My Uni collects in the bottom and that's OK because I have a door on the front.  As long as I don't get a ton of dust at the insert, I'm good.

I've darned near given up trying to get it all from my Shopsmith table saw. I can get maybe 3/4 of it is all. Maybe a blade guard would help.Grin.gif

My DC is the HF with a 33 gallon trash can collector in line. For all applications but the TS, it works great! The DC it'self is evacuated to the outside of the shop. With the trashcan in line, there is just an extremely minute amount of dust that ever reaches the atmosphere.

Four benefits of porting the DC to the outside are shop space gained, not having to worry about microns, no emptying bags and really lessened noise. It also seems to have better suction, too.
