July 6, 201214 yr Well you may still br full of BBQ and the like from the 4th, but here We a with another weekend for the shop. My shop time will be limited for a few weeks. I had a little body shut down the week and the dr. Has me on rest and relaxation, I tried to explain to him the shop was rest and relaxation. So for me it will be limited but that is okay, I will just do some straighting up and putting things away that have been laying around. One of the best thing is my lovely bride got me a 12" sliding compound miter saw. So I will get to maybe get it out of the box and find a home amongst the other Shop tools. I will get to attend First Friday this afternoon. My SNL is coming to loadagenda oars Up and help with the setup and watching the booth tonight. So I will get some time to visit with those that stop by. Been too hot for the grass to grow so no lawn work. So what are you planning for this first great weekend in July? Will you be in the shop, the yard, working in HDL, or just relaxing like me? You know inquiring minds want to know so share with us my our weekend projects.
July 6, 201214 yr John, welcome back buddy, glad your feeling better. I'll give ya a call this weekend if your up to it?This July I am going to wrap some loose ends, rocking chair, and another chair I started as well from Claro Walnut, so I got one chair nearly done and one in parts ready for shaping. I need to strip my shop out too, pull everything in the driveway, blow the place out, do a thorough summer cleaning. I need to figure a way to get a handle on these black widows, I got cobwebs all over the place.John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Wounded Warrior Project and Homes For Our Troops
July 6, 201214 yr Off to the Borg for some finish and a stop along the way for a couple of parallel jaw clamps. Have a bunch of rolling pin display holders that need the finish and then it's on to gluing up a box of pieces I've been saving for pepper grinders and salt cellars. Been so long since I've made some of those, it will be a challenge to remember all the tricks learned in the past. Also have a computer service call to handle yet today.Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins!
July 6, 201214 yr Since I completed the construction of my rustic headboard and sliding bathroom door from the reclaimed Douglas Fir, I started on 3 mirrors out of the DF. I am making a large one for the bedroom, a smaller one for the downstairs bath and a frame for the medicine cabinet door. I have everything milled and cut to proper lengths and got the routing done on the back of the pieces that will be for the medicine cabinet. Once I get these 3 mirrors done, I will be getting the shop all cleaned up so that I can start finishing as that old doug fir is really messy.Allen WorshamCorona, CAallenworsham@earthlink.nethttp://www.awcreationsandwoodcrafts.com'Graze in every man's field, but always give your own milk' J. July 7, 201214 yr We will begin the task of moving our lumber yard about three miles to the S. We will no longer be in the ''fashionable'' Warehouse Arts District but we will now have our shop, our log lot and mill site all in one location. Our new location will have a retail facility too. The gravy on the top... wait for it... wait for it.... the shop is airconditioned  and the power bill is included in the rent!Â

July 8, 201214 yr Finally finish my son desk. Took about 3 months to get it done with all that been happening around this household. Also mow the yard, yea John my wife spending money trying to keep her flowers and vegetables garden alive. While she watering them the grass go steal what they can get. Gonna hate to see that water bill. But then I started watering the front yard yesterday, It bone dry turning to dust. I also finally got around to trying my hand on re-sawing lumber on the Grizzly band saw after trying to get to it for 7 months. Did fairly well for 1st time especially after installing 3/4 inch blade. That open up possibilities for doing some projects I have in mind of trying.  Wayne E Wayne E

The desk is White Oak. It measures 50 " long and 23 1/2 inches wide. My son wanted it basically clear but with a little tone on the finish. I used MinWax Natural to get what he wanted and then 3 coats semi gloss finish varnish.
