Spraying Oil Based Finish

Featured Replies

I love spraying Varathane brand Poly Oil Based, my favorite sheen, satin. Although I am moving away from spraying altogether soon, I am finding new ways to obtain that great finish with just wiping formulas.

But occasionally I love to shoot it. My problem at times?

When I am shooting finish on a piece, sometimes I get over spray on an area I just sprayed and it appears fogged up and rough, or sometimes I even get tiny spiderwebs.

Anyone else have these issue? And if so, what do you do about it?

Thanks

Thanks Charles. I was hoping though to not have to get to that point of sanding again, and again, and again!24.gif

I am thinking maybe I need to thin it a bit more so it lays down better and not so think that it fogs? Just musing here.

I never had a chance to do any varathane spray, but my stepfather did all the time, he used to get a lot of runs from overspray, He basically had to do lighter coats. When he did get overspray he used a very light sandpaper to get it out and spray again.

I can't do varathane spray here except in the summer since the heater is gas operated ( I hate things that have an unexpected boom) LOL. If I had a good place outdoors to do it I would because I love the shine it gives.

I don't spray- hate the cleanup. I guess I could use rattle cans but brush/wipe on finishes have always seemed easier.

That's the way I am starting to go Lew, since I did my first rocker and just wiped on the finish and wiped off, I am sold the ease. But occasionally I still need to fire up the sprayer!
