July 14, 201214 yr  So, I have the #6c almost done.  Time to gear up for the next phase of this project.    Goal is to build, from "scratch' a Bailey style #5 Jack Plane.    I needed a few parts to show up first.  The base is on bid right now, know more later.  The Iron i had, a Buck Brothers 2" wide one.    The frog showed up this morning, riding on a parts plane that came in the mail.  A later type one, I know.  The knob will work as well, after I refinish it.  Tote? Might have a use for it as well, but, I need that bolt.  Some other parts showed up this morning as well.    A 2-3/8" wide iron for the KK7, a 2" wide chipbreaker, and a 2' wide lever cap.  The last two will go on the #5 project, but for now, a test drive along Poplar Alley...Had it a might deep on this first pass..Just a little better.  Iron is that Buck brothers iron i sharpened up the other day.   I had the Poplar set up as an edge grain test bed.  These are full width, and full length shavings from it.  There might be a couple other planes show up as well.   Something about a 5-1/4 Stanley ( repair handles job) and a DE4c.     The #5 base? one i have on bid right now, but, I have a back-up plan as well.... Project Central is getting a bit full, Boss says to clean things off, she wants to bake some cookies!!! Project Plane Central...From the back of the row:  Craftsman #3, Worth #5, KK7, "Bailey#6c", and a "Stanley #4?" First two are for sale on the bay, right now, the two big guys will be heading out to the Pole Barn Woodshop, and the parts plane might go along. Depends where I plan to work on things... July 14, 201214 yr Author A Stanley/Bailey #5 base is on the way, be shipped out monday.   Foundout the New iron i put into the "new" #6c is a Berg iron, has a Shark logo on it.   made in Sweden, no less.   Traded a stanley pre-Sweetheart iron for it.    Franckein Planes just keep getting "Franky-er", don't they?  Parts plane has a lot of Sargent Tool Co. looks to it.    It Should fit the base that is coming in, though.  Having trouble finding a 1/4" x 20 BOTTOMING tap.   menards only had the "regular" taps.  I figure I could re-tap a few holes, to make things easier to fit.  I have the dies, just a tap is needed.  It has to go into a hole with a bottom, these are not through holes.  I'll try Ace hardware Monday, and maybe walk around the block to a DYI Hardware store as well.   'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
July 15, 201214 yr Author The #5 base will be shipped tomorrow.   The Other Auction i was trying to win was a DE4c & a Stanley (??) 5-14.    Would have like to got both for parts.   The DE4c had "handle damage" of some sort.     The Stanley, on the other hand, was strictly a parts plane.   It DID have a STANLEY cast into the base, behind the knob.   The lateral lever sticking up showed it was a Sargent made frog???    The lever cap for some reason was painted black, like Millers Falls did to their planes.   Top it off with a "WORTH" stamped iron..    yep, parts plane for sale....  Oh weelll, got another parts plane in the sights....Charles Nicholls said: How's that auction coming for the other part you said you bid on? I may well be in the market for a small/mid size plane. I've been loooking on the bay too and I think i am subscribed to your list. July 16, 201213 yr Author  For some reason, I am beginning to like that little parts plane.   Might just get some other parts for the #5 project, and restore this Gray & Red back to it's "Glory Days".    I was getting paper thin shavings, with out even tuning this little guy up.   Sole is even still rusty!     I might just clean him up.....'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
July 22, 201213 yr Author Found out more about that parts plane, A Stanley Victor 1104.  Still working on getting some parts for the Bailey#5 project plane.   Base SHOULD be here monday.  I have about three sources for some parts.   One MIGHt turn out to be a "parts Plane" again.    All depends on the bidding wars....'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
July 23, 201213 yr Author The # 5 base has arrived this morning.  Now I just have to win some parts.  Looking for the third type of frog that Stanley came out with.  My Buck Brothers #5 has the fourth style frog.   The one that looks like a "Y".   Will know more, ;ater this week....'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
July 27, 201213 yr Author  The Victor 1104 Parts Planes did indeed become parts for this project.   Most of the "stuff" on flee-bay went for too $$$.  Trying to keep things under budget here.    I did win a Craftsman ( Sargent) #4 to restore, should blow in about monday, or Tuesday. Tote from the parts plane went onto a Union #4G i have.  The #4g's tote had cracked, again.   Going to swap around a few parts, here and there, just to fine tune things.  'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
