July 19, 201213 yr Do you have any idea what type metal the ladle is made from?If it had a lip for pouring you would think something in the metal working. Could have been used to get samples from metal. It almost looks like pewter but I guess it could be cast Iron also.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
July 19, 201213 yr They look like cast aluminum John. We're looking at the inside like a scoop but I think its a forming tool of some kind. Look how shiny the outside is, like it is polished.Ron DudelstonSite HostAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
July 19, 201213 yr Author I think they are cast aluminum Charles, and my first guess were tools to melt lead for making fishing weights or?John Morris The Patriot Woodworker Proud Supporter of Wounded Warrior Project and Homes For Our Troops
July 19, 201213 yr Author I was think of it being a vehicle to melt the lead in only, you would need a mold to pour it into, maybe ?John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Wounded Warrior Project and Homes For Our Troops
July 19, 201213 yr Author Well, so much for my guess!Arlin Eastman said: John  It can not be used to pore things into bacause the top curves in and you would not get it out. Also you can not melt lead in an aluminum container bacause the aluminum would melt almost as fast as the lead.  Arlin John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Wounded Warrior Project and Homes For Our Troops

July 20, 201213 yr That could be close Lew. I was wondering about the small hole or dimple in the middle of the bottom, but couldn't tell if it went all the way through. Again that is also why I was wondering what type metal it was made of. I used to cast bullets like that for my mussel loader. July 20, 201213 yr You're right, Arlin, about the opening and handles.Arlin Eastman said:LewLook at the handles. The long ones are for melting or the wood would catch fire and also see how open the top of the opening is.I tried to google it but it did not show anything but tools for leather or carving. Arlin
