Working out in the Pole Barn Woodshop

Featured Replies

Not every day that I can get out there, so I make the most of it.   Sharpened a few irons, re-habbed a Handyman set of handles, Turned a couple front knobs out of Black Walnut,  Made a tote for my KK7 out of more of that Black Walnut, Built a little TV Table, and watched a couple Thunderstorms roll through the area.  The Knobs?ning-sdc12881-26719-95.jpg?width=750It is dusty because it got put to work.  Still needs a finish, and a little sanding, but it does fit that KK7 nicely.   Since i always turn two knobs, a Union #3 got a new knob as well.   Lumber is Black Walnut.

The KK7 also needed a tote on the rear deck.    A Stanley pattern didn't work, this is a Union style base.  Fudged around until i got something that would fit, and shaped it down to fit my hands.    Still needssome more sanding, and a finish...ning-sdc12882-26719-87.jpg?width=750As for the whole picture?ning-sdc12880-26719-35.jpg?width=750The reason this ( and others) are so dusty?   This one got put to work, as a Jointer Plane.    I jointed five boards for a glue-up, got them into the clamps, and started tapering four legs.   I laid out the waste area on each leg, and bandsawed the waste off.   Then it was off to the leg vise on my "new" workbench.   I used a couple planes to smooth the tapers, with a Parts Plane doing the final pass.  Tapering the two inside faces.    Top came out of the clamps, so the planes gave it a work over.   Two jacks went at it, then a #6, then the Partsplane#4.   I cut the tenons on my tablesaw, and then chopped the mortises to match.   The table came together after a bit of clamp time...ning-sdc12878-26719-37.jpg?width=750Just some old barn wood.   just enough to hold that TV...ning-sdc12879-26719-77.jpg?width=750Nothing fancy, unlike that table i see every time I come in the front door.....ning-sdc12883-26719-12.jpg?width=750at one time, long ago, this was just an oak pallet someone threw out...Grin.gif

There isn't anything better than to walk around ankle deep in wood shavings.     If I can get out there again tomorrow, I will take a camera along.    That floor was deep in shavings.  The new workbench got a workout as well.    Iwas using it to plane items all day long.   About 8 hours worth of work got done.    Still need another 8, but there is always the weekend....Grin.gif
