July 21, 201213 yr Sorry I didn't get the Friday post up so we will just make it a Saturday post. LOML is driving and we are heading down to pick up my youngest son this morning. When we get back home I am off to look at some cherry and walnut that a friends mother n law want to clear out of her late husbands shop. Not sure how much is there but I think it is a pretty good load. Later I will get the knives back in the jointer and then I will have all of my machines ready to start another run. So what are you doing this weekend? You know we want to know so please share with us. John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

July 21, 201213 yr We're having to make a quick trip down to Calif. I scroll sawed a wind chime for Mom and a couple Tugboat Puzzles for grandson and great grandson. Wind chime was project of Paul Meisel and the tugboats were from ScrollSaw Woodworking Magazine. Finally figured out how to get the pics off of my cell phone so now I can play catch up with them. July 21, 201213 yr I am currently in a hotel room in Yuma, AZ getting ready to go to the church to get set up for my mother in law's surprise 70th birthday party. We will be heading home on Sunday to go from the 108 degree temps back to the 100 degree temps at home.I have made up 3 mirror frames and 2 shelves out some reclaimed doug fir. 2 frames for the downstairs bath and one for the bedroom and the 2 shelves will both be for the downstairs bath. They are already stained and ready for spraying finish on. This week I will be getting the shop cleaned up so I can do the spraying later in the week....hopefully.Allen WorshamCorona, CAallenworsham@earthlink.nethttp://www.awcreationsandwoodcrafts.com'Graze in every man's field, but always give your own milk' J. July 21, 201213 yr Started gluing up some blanks for making some salt cellars and pepper grinders. Had enough scrap to create 5 sets. Need to mill some maple to create the salt cellar lids and cut some scrap pine waste blocks. It'll be slow going on this project until we get the school's computers/network ready for class in about 4 weeks.Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler. July 22, 201213 yr The lids ran me through the funny's, at first, too. I made a little trammel tool to get the diameter of the inside of the salt cellar opening. Used that to get to the rough diameter of the lid tenon. Then used the actual salt cellar- for which the lid was being made- to get to the final fit. The lid tenon is tapered slightly to aid in fitting the lid onto the top. Also, when making a batch of these, make sure you code the lid to its' matching bowl or you end up playing musical lids to find the correct combination- don't ask how I know.Charles Nicholls said:I have several things to be doing, but it's really too hot to do much, at least at one time, so I'm taking it slow.I have a few pens to get made and a couple more bottle stoppers. The stoppers will just go into supply in case someone wants one. Then i have several 3/8" magnets on the fridge that are bare that need a little work. These hold business cards and kids pictures on the fridge real well, and if you have a metal door like I do, you can even hang something there. I'll make a new thread as i get things completed. Right at the moment, i am shaping a piece of hickory that I am probably going to make a magnet from since the grain of the wood is rather plain.Anyway John If for some reason I don't see the weekly post by late Friday's I'll go ahead and post it IF I remember. I didn't even think to look this time around.Lew, i have got to figure out a way to get some wood glued up so I can try a cellar. I have tried hollowing a few boxes that I glued scrap up for but never seem to be able to get the lid to fit right. The tenon is too loose. usually operator error I measure wrong or just take too much wood off the lid ;/Have a great rest of the weekend all!Charles NichollsSite Hostmoffet61@att.nethttp://www.nichollswoodworks.comProud Supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project
July 22, 201213 yr Author Well as it has turned out, I think I have spent the entire weekend on the road. Went to look at some cherry, walnut, oak, and poplar in the shed a lady wants cleaned out. Made her an offer so waiting to see if she takes it or gets a better offer. Looks like some nice projects being works on but there must only be four or five of us doing anything. Everyone else must be watching tv.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
July 24, 201213 yr This is my little project for the weekend. We have started selling these bracelets which are locally made, and i needed some way to display them. Just a little pine I had laying around, some 5/8" dowels, and a little Minwax golden pecan spray stain. A few years ago a farm supply store went out of business and I bought all the dowels they had for .25 each, it was over 200 that I got and still have 30 or 40 left, it was a deal I couldn't pass up. GregScroll Saw forum hosthttp://www.thesawdustfactoryga.com/

July 24, 201213 yr I'm down to the odd sizes on the dowels, but on projects like this it's just use what you have enough of and it still turns out looking good  John Moody said: Nice display rack Greg. July 25, 201213 yr Today I finished getting the garage cleaned up and shot the mirror frames with a seal coat of shellac along with 2 shelves all made from some reclaimed doug fir. Here is a photo of the frames. The larger one on the left will be for the bedroom and I left it more rustic with course grain and darker patina. The other 2 are for the downstairs half bath and I sanded them down more to make them smoother and take down the patina while leaving some of the "character" marks and stains and then stained them to bring back the color of the original patina. The smaller frame was routed out on the back so that it will fit over the existing medicine cabinet mirror and be glued down.
