Hmm, where to start. Well I would consider myself an advanced wood turner who specializes mainly in segment turning but over the last couple of years has branched out into other areas of woodworking (I discovered the joys of my router less than a year ago). I am also a member of the national guard and as such have deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan a total of 3 times. The last time I left in February 2012 and I was medevac'd out of country in June. Currently,I reside in a medical transition unit where doctor appointments and rehab fill my days and at night I dream about my workshop. I say all this because I have had the honor of receiving pens and other projects made by woodworkers across the world and seen first hand the joy I and my fellow soldiers got from them. When I left on this last tour I had another motive. I was going to photograph all of what I call "the Battlefield Woodworkers" and start a blog on it when I returned. I was actually searching for potential blog names when I stumbled on to this site and saw how much you all support my brothers and sister in arms, to which I say, "THANK YOU".

It will be several months before I return to the workshop, though I am constantly designing new projects. So until then I may be more of a watcher, though that probably wont stop me from asking questions, and I have thought about posting some pre deployment project photos just to get some critiques. We'll see.

See you around

Kevin

Please do post your project! I, for one, would love to see them.

As for the "The Battlefield Woodworkers" blog, I encourage you to write and post your work. Not only will it give us an insight into what you have done, I believe it will help you process what you have experienced. I will be looking forward to reading/seeing your thoughts.

Kevin, my name is John Morris the site owner operator. You have found home buddy. Welcome to The Patriot Woodworker. If we had a golden key to our site, you would have it. Your always welcome here, your always just a call or posted question away from support, and your home.

Thank you for your service, keep coming back, keep us in the loop with your recovery, and keep us up to date on that workshop you want to put together.

I can't wait to see your new blog. A blog is a great way to talk about the things you love, and it's a great way to fill the space during your recovery, and transitioning into a workshop. I'll be waiting in anticipation. Once you get your blog up, let me know where it is, we'll link to it and get some readers over to you. Thank you Kevin, be well and again, Welcome Home.

THANK YOU ! ! ! For your service time. I am a VET - Viet Nam and a wood worker, though my wife says I make a lot of saw dust - LOL

Keep nothing but "Good thoughts" and it will all work out. Making saw dust keeps me sane - I think !

One day at a time, enjoy the minutes and the days will take care of themselves.Smile.gif

I want to welcome you to our forum and truly thank you for your service. I am an Army  vet from almost 50 years back. I however never left the states, oh, I did go to New Jersey for a spell.  LOL

You have my sincere thoughts and gratitude for all you must have experienced . Come back often and participate as you please. Hope you are able to get back to your shop soon and get that saw dust all over you.

Regards,

Leo Pedersen
