July 30, 201213 yr  A small box showed up today in the mail.    It had a #3 sized rusty handplane inside. Hmmm, a RED frog (again??)REAL wood for knobs, and brass bolts, too!  It is a #3 in width, but it is as long as any #4 sized plane out there. It has some "Groovy" sides, as well...with white paint racing stripes at no extra charge.  Grooved sides, but smooth bottom? it has a big old steering wheel, as well..Nice and clean, right?   This newcomer to the shop was made for Sears Craftsman by sargent tool co..  Look Ma, I don't have to make another tote, either.   This should keep me busy for a day, or two.... July 31, 201213 yr Author  Did a little clean-up yesterday, before I went to work.   I got the iron clean up, the frog shined up, the handles stripped of their old, yucky finish, and applied a stripper to the base.   Not down to bare metal, just need a few layers taken off, is all. Iron does have a Craftsman stamp on it, under all that rust. Off all day today, and tomorrow, just MIGHT get a little more done.... 'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
July 31, 201213 yr Author After a nap this morning, time to go to the Back Porch Bench.   A before clean up shot of a groovy side, WITH racing stripes..and a look at the sole of this mess...Nice. ain't it?  But that's why we are at the "Bench" today..  Cleaned up the sides..and the smooth bottom got cleaned up, as well..The stamp at the end is "BL", whatever that is...   Got the iron cleaned as well...even found a name on it..There's that BL again. I got all the rest of the metal parts cleaned up, this iron got a sharpening, and the wood was stripped, ready for a finish.   Put all the parts back together (easier to keep track of them, that way) and gave it a test drive on some Poplar.Hmmm, just a bit off to one side.  Adjusted the lateral a bit, and tried again..That's a little better, imagine what it will be when I get it sharp?    Fun work, but kind of dirty, though..But it was a FUN two hours, though...
