Hot and muggy dog days of summer are on us now. Won't be long to we will be longing for warmer weather to get into the shop. So with all of the heat around you got any projects you are finishing up before Winter starts to set in?

I have been busy the past few weekends getting my parents house ready to put on the market. We have moved them into Assisted Living and no longer need the house. Most of my projects are just getting it ready for the Realtor to take over. Painting and carpet cleaning and we will be ready.

I am way behind in my shop with projects though. I still have porch swings to finish, a cutting board/chopping block to redo, a cedar chest needing a new bottom apron and it seems the list go on and on. Thankful for the work but this has been one busy year.

What are you all working on? Have you started on any special projects as Christmas gifts? Share some pictures and tell us about what you will be doing this weekend in your shop.

I'm sitting in the north woods turning oak into smoke. I should be back home replacing inventories as I have full weekends of craft shows for the next 4 weeks but family vacation is more important right now.

Wow John, when you look into the fire just think of the pens and bottle stoppers that are going up in smoke. 24.gif

Have a great vacation.

Gotta mail off a piece of wood to Phil Chestnut. Hope to get some work done on the pepper grinders. Probably be able to get the pieces of maple cut for the salt cellar lids, too.

Time traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins!

Going to try gluing up a few pieces of spalted maple for some turned boxes. I need to find more of the 1"x6x6" pieces or a bit smaller so that I can continue work like this. Most of my wood stock is 1x1 so not good for bowls or boxes. After i check the finances, I'll be looking to order some but I cant afford the wood shop retail type woods, so I'm looking for basically any scraps that I can get my hands on up to 7x7, thickness doesn't matter much.

Other than that it's making/restocking stuff that I am running out of.

I have a bunch of coasters made from walnut that have received a coat natural Danish Oil earlier this week and have dried for a few days. Over the weekend I will be spraying finish on them so that I can get 12 of them shipped on Tuesday to guy in NYC along with 2 large walnut cutting boards and 4 walnut trivets. After I get done with this order and get it shipped out, I will be able to get working on finishing up a number of projects for the house.

God bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.

Well I decided that working on a pen was the best thing for me to do right now, stock is dwindling. I may need to slip over to WoodCraft and get a couple of their pen kits. I really like the bullet style pens and the Princeton. I recently got some of their Bocote pen blanks so I have some wood to make them with.

I agree, it's been very hot here lately with temps about the same as yours Joe, however, it may be that we don't get too far into the 90s ourselves today, a nice change for sure.

101+

Too darn HOT...  for anything!

When it hits 90+ inside I have to turn OFF my computer!  (my rule... to protect the equipment)

Yesterday it hit shortly after NOON and stayed there until after 7pm!

Right now, it's 83 outside 81 inside...  forecast = 101

Looks like the next 6 days will be cooling off a little...  down to the 90's!  LOL

It has just been too darn HOT...

We're gearing up to put a ceiling on our deck. We put the roof on and wired the lights last year. I guess it's about time to finish it off.

Just finished making the "T" s for our helpers (Son and girlfriend) to use to hold the 1/2" T-111.
