Applying CA finish to small turnings and usefull tips for the pen turners!

Featured Replies

For those of us that have attempted to use CA as a finish but have had mixed results watch the video at this link http://www.woodnwhimsies.com/inlay.html . This has got to be one of the simplest techniques I have ever seen and it works. If you don't get good results then it is probably something in your application that is lacking, review the video and see what may be different between how this gentleman does it Vs your application.

There are several other tips provided in the video that may help with the use of a skew chisel and turning between centers for pen turners. I've been turning between centers for my pen blanks for some time now and find that it produces a better blank without the oval shape that sometimes creeps into your pen blanks when using a pen mandrill. The only caveat to turning between centers is that the tail and head stock must be centered to one another otherwise neither method will result in a perfectly round blank. There are other techniques that can lessen the oval shape but not completely get rid of it and it will manifest itself with a slight bump between the pen parts and the blank when assembled.

While your there check out the products they sell. Their prices are very good.

Thanks, Mike!
