A lil'red handsaw..

Featured Replies

A Barn sale find, for only $.50.     Red handle.  Blade is about 14" long.     Blade is an 8ppi, rip saw.   Three steel bolts with a steel plate to hold them.   Red handle has a silver Bugle stamped into it.    There WAS some other lettering on the handle, most is gone.     Not sure whether this is a Child's Tool Box saw of some sort?    I intend to try and rehab this back into something my Grandson could use.   Might take awhile though...ning-sdc13181-25463-18.jpg?width=750Heading out to the bench now, to sand the "H" out of all that rustiness.    Anyone have a clue as to what brand this was????

Can't get them bolts to budge, without tearing up the slots.   Clean in place, i guess.    Seems to be a Children's Toolbox sort of tool.   Like the old Handy Andy sets.   This thing will cut wood right now, without my trying to sharpen it.  I shine up the metal plate, and the bolts, clean the saw plate, and find some Bright RED paint for the handle.     Maybe some Enamel?    I don't think Rustoleum will work on wood handles....Grin.gif

what's the other side like? and looks old enough it wasn't a kids saw.  try some wd40 and maybe a little heat on them bolts, you can always use the old handle for a pattern on a new one.

I'd go for the electric rust removal to see what you got.

50 was a bit steep.

been hitting them bolts with PB Blaster,  got one bolt to spin, but not loosen up.    Handle is pretty soaked in the stuff.     Handle is a might small for my hand, as well.     Other side of the handle does not have a metal plate, just bare wood.    Can't quite get my vise grips to snag a bolt, also afraid I might snap a bolt, rather than loosen it.   That would be a buummmmerrrr!    About every three or four teeth, they set a tooth so hard, it made a dent-like bump in the teeth line.     Might try to "un-set" them.   We'll see how it goes.....

Made  a little progress the other day, very little.  It had to share time with a handplane that came in.    Anyway, a couple more pictures, just to show some progress was made...ning-sdc13213-25464-89.jpg?width=721Snaggle-tooth!   This is the "A" side...ning-sdc13214-25464-32.jpg?width=721and the "B" side.  Still haven't got a single bolt to loosen up, although two will spin around.     I'll just let them be, don't want to break them....ning-sdc13217-25464-32.jpg?width=721and a close-up of the plate.      When I first got this saw, out at the toe there looked like a "cream", or a "White" stripe, about an inch wide.   Maybe replicate that feature?     Red handle,  but what to paint the bolts, and that plate?
