August 15, 201213 yr arrived today in the mail box.  Just a $10 plane, counting S&H.   Everything seemed to be there...A little rusty..and a little too much black paint on things, like frogs..So, I got out the supplies, and spent a little timeusing sandpaper, scratchy pads , and a jig for the iron. Got the small parts wire brushed clean, use the scratchy pads to brighten the shiny parts like the lever cap, and the base.  Started to look like a plane again..Handles will get re-painted, when I get some more paint.  And, since this is "Tool Porn",  a "Money shot" is in order, right?Just think what it will be like when I do get it sharp.... August 15, 201213 yr Author The iron is Stamped as a handyman H1205.    It even had a clearcoat like finish on it.  The iron was set under the chipbreaker wrong. It was set on the bevel side.   All the bolts got the wire wheel clean-up.   The two that hold the frog in place have a one piece set-up, washer is a part of the bolt.  The handle bolts are the usual two piece things.  Instead of brass at the top, these are steel.   No cracks were found in any of the woodwork, so that's a plus.  Wood is just a hardwood (Beech??) so it would better painted?    This plane will be part of a set of Handyman planes.   I have in the set: H1203 ( a #3 size), an H1204 ( a #4 size) and now the H1205 Jack plane.    Don't know IF Stanley made anything bigger, and i'm not real crazy about those Handyman Block Planes.  Goes with the set of Unions I have.   I am also working on a set of Sargents.  More pictures, later? August 16, 201213 yr Author  A few more "After" shots of this $10 plane.compare this to an earlier shot of the frog.   this is how it is supposed to look..the rest of the small stuff, all shined up..a cleaned sole, other than my thumbprints...sides cleaned up real nice, as well.   And, now for another "Money shot"...But, why do they always curl up like that???
