Friday, August 17th, What's on Your Woodworking Agenda this Weekend?

Featured Replies

I have spent the past several days working on getting my parents house ready to put on the market. Have I ever mentioned I hate drywall work? If not let me tell you now that I do not care much for it and have a great respect for those can make it look seamless.

Not much shop time for me again this weekend, however I am very far behind at this point. Really close at finishing up the other work and getting the painting done and carpet cleaned and then ready to turn it over to the Realtor.

What are you plans this weekend? I have seen some very nice projects being shown lately but I also know there are a lot of you out there that need to put some of the things you are making online for the rest of us to enjoy along with you. So will you be in the shop, doing HDL, home improvement (me), yard work, or just some good ole R&R? Give us a look at your weekend and share with some other fine woodworkers here.

By the way Turners, get the chisels sharpened and the projects ready for the Turning Contest. Those Easy Wood Tools custom made for The Patriot Woodworker are going to be some really nice prizes. So chuck up some wood and let the lathe spin and you might be the owner of the first Patriot Woodworker Easy Wood Tools!

John - sounds like you have your work cut out for you.  Good luck on the finishing part.  Dry wall - yuck.

For me, it's finishing up a few projects to take to next weekends show in Young Harris, GA.  Working on a new Red Oak Nativity set and revamping the velocipede.

How 'bout the rest of y'all?

Let's see.  Today I'm visiting a veneer plant so be sure to check out my cabinets blog for pictures and maybe a video.  Tomorrow I'm resting from the shop and taking my bride to see "Hope Springs" and Sunday, as always, worship.  I'll hit it hard again Monday on the cabinets.

Above and Beyond WoodWorks

My workbench is currently clear and clean since I shipped out my last cutting board order. I am discontinuing doing them for sale after a number of years and will be moving on to other things woodworking related. Since I came down with pneumonia again (actually, I got diagnosed with it in April but never fully got rid of it and it has reared its ugly head again) I am not able to make any sawdust for awhile. Monday I have Jury Duty so I will be reporting to the court house and hang out to see if I get called for a panel. If not then I will be done for another year or so. My new Rikon 10-325 14" bandsaw that I got for my 50th birthday was delivered this week, but it will sit in the box a bit until next week at least before I can pull it out and put it all together. Other than that, all the zillions of other projects that I have planned get to hang out in limbo.

Hey big John!

I need to start in on a curly maple shelf unit for my daughters violin teacher. She has taken upon herself to teach our daughter pro bono, but I cannot let that happen, so I am trading woodwork for lessons! Win win right! And she loves our work so it works out.

Her violin teacher is a local artist in the Celtic tradition, and she and her love are called Swift Pony. They are a folk duet that play in the area. Check em out, Lily McCabe Violin and Wayne Cameron Guitar, Lily is a sweetheart, she comes to our home to play and practice with our daughter, and our daughter also gets to go to her studio to practice as well. We are blessed.

So, I am making a nice simple colonial style shelf for them to hang on their wall, it will be one of many pieces I make for them in exchange for lessons.

I'm pretty much just doing whatever I want in the shop this weekend, I don't have anything specific to do. I do have an order for 2 bottle stoppers, but they do not have to be done until December, the client wants them as Christmas gifts. So basically i am just making up whatever I have in stock that hasn't been made yet (mostly pens) and goofing off.

I'll check that video out as soon as I finish this post.

A great video too! :)

39.gif ,

I'll be taking care of the wife8.gif, who just had her gallbladder removed Tuesday.Tongue.gif

She's doing pretty well18.gif, tired and weak17.gif but home6.gif

So I won't be getting much done as far as shop time.

I may squeeze in a little time to get the old bandsaw frame back into the electrolysis tank and ready for paint.106.gif

Going to sign off for the night all, be good and be safe! Larry Prayers to you and the wife. my sister had that same procedure several years ago and came through better than she thought, faster than she thought, due to having it done with a scope instead of a normal operation.

Prayers to you too Arlin, I hope you are making chips fly soon!

Goodnight all

Well I hope you all had very productive weekends and got lots of shop time.

For me I got all of the dry wall at my parents house patch and the painter arrived around 10:00 on Saturday and got the living/Dining room, all three bedrooms, hall and one bath painted. He came back Sunday afternoon and finished the kitchen/den so all of the rooms are finished and painted.113.gif

And the best part is I didn't have to get any paint on a paint brush!

We also got all of the flower beds cleaned and trimmed and finished cleaning out the last of the things in my dad's shop.

Almost finished and ready to see if we can find a buyer.

So how did your projects go? Were you able to get in any of them ones you wanted to work on. Post some progress pictures if you have them. We want to see what you are making.
