August 20, 201213 yr  had to walk down to the library today.    Picked up a book for the other half.    Kept walking along until i walked into the two thrift stores downtown.    First.....NADA.  The second one??? Well, I spent a whopping $3 at that place.  The Haul? One pint of Krylon Red Paint, water clean-up Two wood handled coping saws...Didn't find any name on these.  Oh, and one more item.....Strange teeth.   The Medallion reads:  E.C. Atkins & Co.    Something about Indy, IND.   Blade was strange all the way to the end...About 21" from the handle, it is a point.  All I have done to this strange saw is polish up the Brass.   Ex-Army, you know, can't stand un-polished Brass.  Not as short as another saw i have.. But it is short.  There is a very readable etch on the blade as well.   As for that shorty saw? It is on the back porch right now, with the first coat of RED paint drying on the wooden handle.    Got to wait a while, and then a second coat.   Just another day, sitting around the house? One more item today.  Seems the City is fixing sidewalks in the area ( They OWN them) and as they were pouring a few across the street, I asked the crew IF I could have a shovel full or two for that bad bottom step.   I wound up with about a quarter of a Bobcat bucket of concrete.    Added a 1" veneer to the bottom step, and a nice "Rat Slab" in front of that.    The piece of sidewalk that USED to be there was just dirt.   Scraped away all the loose dirt, and spread out the rat slab.   "Rat Slab"???  That is what they called any un-reinforced concrete slab.   No bar was handy, so just a slab on grade.  Magged it out smooth, but left it rough enough for traction.   I'll have to take some pictures, I suppose? August 20, 201213 yr Author I'll see about pictures of the front step, after the forms is pulled away.    The Atkins saw MAY be a "Ship" saw, and the last two inches are bent a bit, both ways. They were tapered like that so someone could cut curves.    The two Coping saws will be heading over to ebay, later today. Hey, I have THREE out in the shop now. 'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
August 21, 201213 yr Author  It had been a while since i went to those stores.  I turned down almost the same amount of tools.   One saw was marked @ $5???  Nope, not me.  Inbetween the two coping saws was a third one.   nah, got enough now.  BIG Miter box, with a LONG miter saw?  Hmmm, $10!!! Ah, no. Too big to carry home, for one thing.  I think I got away with a few things, but I did alright.  Might go back in a week or two, to see what I missed....
