August 25, 201213 yr  Rust bucket, Forlorn Hope, Rusty & Crusty?   Not any more! Day number two of the Challenge is done. Got a coat of paint applied...Took the parts out to the Pole Barn Woodshop, for some serious work.     Bolt extractor, brand new at that, snapped in the first hole.  Had to drill around it, and re-tap as 1/4" x 20 bolt holes.   When the "new" bolts do show up, I'll re-thread the brass nuts as the same.   No problem there.    Finished cleaned any and all rusty-ness out of this little plane.    The lever cap and the iron/ chipbreaker got a work over...Dang camera flash on the iron..   The iron was sharpened as best as i can, and polished up.   It has more scars than a teenager with acne.  I also worked over the base, and the frog.   Screws and all were shined up. Bolt in the knob is a temp.  The sole was cleaned up, and lapped...as were the sides...this is the "good side".   the other side has a lot more pitting going on...I guess I could take it for a short "Test Drive".....on the Beech!    Rust Bucket?    No, now meet Mr. Stanley Bailey Number four, type 11.     Almost done..... 'and may the road raise up to meet ye'

August 29, 201213 yr Author  The Brass bolts showed up today, just need to re-thread as 1/4" x 20.   New steel bolts will need new threads on one, the shorter one is already to go.   Short bolt is aslo Stainless steel!  Tote bolt will need the threads on one end, after it is cut to length.  All said and done......I will have a Stanley/ Bailey #4c , type 11.   Made just before WWI about 1910-1918 era.   it will go nicely with the Union plane Co. #4G of the same age.    Both are a #4 smoother size, both have the grooved sole.   Maybe later, a "head-to-head' face-off????  ;-)) Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
