I recommend a 4" Starrett DOUBLE SQUARE. Compared to the larger tool, the smaller square is easier to handle and can be tucked into an apron pocket when it's not in use.

I don't know why they call it that but  double square is a tool with a sliding  steel scale in a slot that you can lock in place.

I guess it's double because it sticks out either side of the  cast iron head and both are square

Actually Joe, Leo contacted me today and alluded that he'd back off for awhile, he wanted to donate this last prize to you, but I told him that you are good with it all. We just need more folks to get off their duff and jump in. It's been slow around here the last few weeks, I think folks are wrapping up their summer affairs, once fall and winter sets in, this place will be rocking once again!
