August 30, 201213 yr I sawed up a giant oak a couple years ago . Almost 3 feet in diameter I am having the dickens of a time drying it out. I got it stacked indoors after resawing it smaller-ish. I'll have to take the pile apart and re saw it again in a year I suspect to accelerate the drying. But I needed some maple So this monster got felled. I've taken half of it in already. It's better than two feet diameter Here is my little truck delivering a load When the job I did sawing the Cants is not so straight I attach this little frame to the bottom of the cant and drop my band saw's fence to pick up on the frame and use that as my reference and guide. After a couple passes I can usually forgo the frame.

August 31, 201213 yr Author More porn: Here is my last log section. It's about a ton and a half best guess. I've slabbed and squared three sides How did I get it up there. No hoist, no machinery, no friends just me and a couple of sticks. I cut 'em up like this barking and squaring 'em Here is a pic showing my Peavy or log pole or log jack. It's a  stick of wood this one is about 8 feet long. I've wrapped it with a piece of 3/16" steel to which I have an articulated hook. That muckles onto a log and I can roll it around with all that moment arm.  Here is some interesting color I found
August 31, 201213 yr Cliff, that is awesome man!! What a great way to spend a day, cuttin wood you know that will be used for some wonderful projects. And that flame is cool! August 31, 201213 yr Author Yah and I cut a fair bit of it rather thick 2 and 3"  I've read that going for 6 or 8 is asking for trouble with maple. The saw is an Agazzani B-20Plans? We don't need no stinkin' plansI dunno really the tree had to come down and I was not going to let it go to waste or firewood. There's a definite surfeit of lumber in that thing. It'll be stuffed away inside a nook of my shop stickered and drying and maybe I'll take to making some Maloof style chairs.  I definitely have the thickness for seats. That last piece I have really high hopes for.  It's loaded with old overgrown branchings so there is a fair shot of some great figure like flame, tiger etc. Course it could be shot through with knots too. It's like that box of chocolates "you never know what Chuuu goin' to get.
