Friday, September 7th, What's on your Woodworking Agenda?

Featured Replies

I am a little late getting this up today. I was in the ER with my oldest son last night. He either got bit by something or had an allergic reaction but all of a sudden started itching and swelling and said he felt like he was on fire. I got him to the ER and they gave him a shot of benadryl and a steroid shot. We got there about 10:30 and left this morning about 2:00 am. He is better and they got the swelling and itching down before we left.

Tonight is another First Friday Arts and Craft show in downtown Florence, AL. I will be there setup although I have been so tied up with other stuff my inventory is a little low. I hope I have enough to make a good showing and have a good night.

I am having a new roof put on my parents home this weekend and I am thankful I am not putting it on. It should be finished by the time I get off work today.

I am hoping to get a little shop time in Saturday afternoon and maybe Sunday afternoon. I am way behind on work and have customers that have been very patient but I know are ready for their item to be done.

So what about all of you wonderful Patriot Woodworkers. What are your plans this weekend in September? Some of you are starting your projects for the Wood Turning Contest I know. Time is about there, so don't tarry too long.

Give us a hint as to what you have on your agenda this weekend, Woodworking, Home Improvement, HDL, yard work, or some good ole R&R? Inquiring minds here at TPW want to know. We also love to see some nice pictures of your work, so please put them up.

Glad that your son is doing better.

I have things pretty much caught up and cleaned up in the shop. I am hoping to start spraying finish on my reclaimed wood head board and sliding door for our master bedroom. I had my wife help me lay them out on tables in the garage and I will be hanging the tarps to cover the tool area and will shoot the shellac seal coat today. This past weekend we worked at removing our old 1990's era huge queen size pedestal bed with 4 drawers underneath and a combo headboard/nightstands/mirrored shelf that we have had for the past 15 years or so. The only piece I am keeping is the 6 drawer dresser which I am going to resurface and put a new slab top and drawer fronts to be more rustic to fit in with the new head board and sliding door. I was chewing on re-doing the night stands as well but my wife and I decided to go a different route and get something else for use as night stands. We  went down to the "Old Town" circle in Orange, CA where they have a bunch of antique shops and walked around. We found an old child's school desk that had a lot of character and in good condition which will be one night stand. It is from the later 1800's to early 1900's. Then my wife found an old box with a flip top lid that was covered with what looked like an alligator type texture in a dark brown with brass handles and hardware which looks cool and is probably from the 1940's to 1950's. It fits in well and my wife is happy which makes me happy. Cost was $80 for both and I just had to give them a good cleaning and tighten up some screws on the wood slats for the folding seat and back on the desk.

Glad your son is ok and from reading past post glad to see you back.  I been busy on other things that have not had much time to even get on this forum.  Finish my son cabinet he wanted about 2 weeks ago and I do not particularly like it.  Got started on another desk, time for my son friend and he wanted it done in Cherry.  Mostly cutting the boards to rough length and planning them to thickness.  I hope I have enough lumber to do it.  On some of the boards the colors are lighter than others and I'm trying to match them.  While working in the garage / shop this evening we had a storm.  Some high winds and heavy rain.  I didn't really think to much about till I decided to take a coffee break.  ning-garys3drawercabinet-24355-61.jpg?wiGary' 3 drawer cabinet

Sounds like you found some real unique pieces to add a lot of character to the room. I am looking forward to seeing the finished project. I think that room is going to need a magazine layout done.

Well they got the roof on the house Friday, met with the realtor and got the sign in the yard. I am waiting on two more projects at the house. The carpet cleaner will be there Monday morning and I have new windows on order that should be installed in about two weeks. We are having it all done as I just don't have time right now to add that to my todo list.

Had a good First Friday and meet some great woodworkers on my area. Look forward to seeing some of their work posted on here.
