September 8, 201213 yr I've been working on this pen for 2 days and finally completed it this evening. This is a design I found on IAP. A gentleman with the handle of "FireWhatFire" was kind enough to provide a blog for those that wished to try it out. My rendition is made from segments of Paduk, Rose wood and Aluminium mounted on a Craft USA Artisan Aero 10K gold & chrome kit. The finish is 10 coats of CA.  Building the blank didn't take very long but the turning was very time consuming. I had 2 blowouts during turning and repaired them. Next time I will use wood that has greater contrast with each other and I'll use a less porous wood than paduk. For those interested I'll post a blog on how the blank is constructed. Thanks for viewing and comments and critiques welcome! www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops
September 8, 201213 yr Wow Mike!!! No critiques here man! All I can say is I want one! That is absolutely beautiful. The color scheme is really good, a nice combination of man made and natural, the sandwiched aluminum turned out really nice. This is up there with some of the best I have ever seen, and most importantly it look comfortable to use. September 8, 201213 yr Author Thanks John! It's got some mistakes in it. I'll do a few things different on the next one. Thanks again!www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops

September 8, 201213 yr Author Thank you Lewis! Just dumb luck, and yep I will be making some more but with a different combination of woods and some with different materials. I picked up some colored acrylic sheets that I will be using this pattern on. I'll try to get something put together in a few days. Thanks again.www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops
September 8, 201213 yr Author Actually Arlin I assembled the blank and then drilled it. I do most of my drilling on the lathe. Before drilling the blank I wrapped it with cheese cloth and then saturated it with thin CA glue. I'll show the process in the blog shortly.www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops
September 8, 201213 yr Author I have posted a blog with the process I used, It should be up soon after approval and I post a link on here when it's approved. Keep in mind you can use many different materials and or shapes when making segmented blanks. Explore and experiment and most of all have fun doing it.Thanks for viewing and for your comments.www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops

September 28, 201213 yr Firewhatfire--------Hey thats me. I am surprised anyone can remember me anytime, much less associated with a pen I made. That looks amazing and your tutorial makes it look easier than mine does. I may have to use your technique next time.
September 29, 201213 yr Nothing short of awesome Mike. One of these days I plan to tackle some segmented pieces, but haven't taken the time to bone up on the "how to" of them.
