September 13, 201213 yr  After a morning of being prodded and scanned at the Hospital, I went for a walkout.   Checked out a "new" Thrift store.    Nope, no good deals in that one, rusty old saws @ $8?    Ah, not for me...  Went to another store, got to looking around, found something rusty looking back at me. 16" long each side is 7/8" wide.   Each side?  well, yeah, when you are a ...when it is a Corner Chisel.   "How Much?"    "$1 + tax"    "Sold!" walked home with this little guy, and a book from the Library.    Handle will need some work..Well , maybe, just turn a new one?I'll use what is left as a pattern.   Spent most of the afternoon cleaning the "iron works"...backside looks better..so does the "business' side.    Did i say this was a big chisel? That's a Stanley #110 beside it.    Still need to make the new handle, with a hoop of some sort, and learn how to sharpen a corner chisel.   Not too bad a day... September 14, 201213 yr Author Re: allI waited until well down the street before I laughed a bit.I think I'll try the turning myself, on this one, thanks anyway.Nope, have to supply my own drill bit. Maybe a 3/4", or 7/8" bit?No markings at all. Might have worn away, or just rusted into the rest of the pitting.  Back is nice and straight, no bends.   Someone had ground a relief from the edge back up the sides, for about an inch.   I will look up the sharpening stuff, after the Doctor visit today. Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
September 15, 201213 yr Author  Heart Doctor gave me a "clean bill of health, however, need to see a "Lung" guy next week.   Ok, making some progress on this $1 chisel...One edge is looking decent...other edge is a little behind.   Still a work in progress.  Took it out for a Test Drive in some old 2x pine...Not bad for the first time... Still to go 1), finish the sharpening, and 2) turn a new handle.   #2 will be IF and when I can get to the Pole Barn Shop, where the lathe is.   I have some blanks in Beech, and an old dead Apple tree in the backyard.    Wonder if it would miss a slice or two?   Also have to find a hunk of old pipe, to make a hoop for the end. One other project in the works, let you know later about that one.....
