September 17, 201213 yr since I needed to make a handle for a chisel.    Got a blank of scrap wood chucked up and turned into a cylinder..hey, it's an OLD lathe, ok?  5 speed Craftsman with a "T" shaped bed.  I had the old handle as a pattern, so, the MKII Eyeballs copied that onto the blank..Not really sure what wood this is.   MIGHT be beech, might be Sycamore.  Cut things loose, and hammered the new handle home..Chisel is standing there on it's own, since it cut a mortise while I was hammering the handle into place. Gave it a Gelstain finish, called Cherrywood.   Cut some old pipe to make a hoop..Just a dallor chisel... September 18, 201213 yr Hey there, Nice handle. I can tell by the grain pattern that it is in fact Beech. Well it COULD be sycamore, but I think sycamore would be way too soft for a handle. If it has a good weight to it, I'd have to say beech, as sycamore is very lightweight. September 18, 201213 yr Author  Would that make it "Beechwood aged"?     I did have a blank of Black walnut sitting there as well, but I'm saving that for the front knobs of some handplanes..Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
September 18, 201213 yr Beechwood Aged lol, I don't know about that one. Here's a piece of what i know is beech and from what I see, the grain is near identical just running in the opposite direction Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks
