Friday, September 21st, What's on Your Woodworking Agenda this Weekend?

Featured Replies

Well we had a little dip in temperatures and it barely got into the 50's last night. Still in the 80's during the day so we are not in the winter season here yet, but the feel of fall in definitely in the air. I love this time of year and it is a great time to jump into the shop and get some projects done without it being too hot or too cold.

Finished putting the last coat of mineral oil on the large cutting board/chopping block I was redoing for a friend.

I think we are making a run this weekend it all holds out to pick up a load of dried maple. I'll let you know later how that works out.

Also going to spend some time in the shop Saturday getting my youngest son working on a Big Green Egg Smoker table out of cedar. Just going over some safety rules and setups for some of the machines and then turning him loose and see how he does.

So how about all you Patriot Woodworkers, what is on your woodworking agenda this weekend? Will you get some good shop time in the nice cooler weather, work in the yard and get it ready for the winter, take on the HDL or spend Saturday in front of the Big Screen while laying the recliner watching some college football or whatever you enjoy watching? Here at The Patriot Woodworker we are always interested in what you are working on and hope you will take time to share you projects with us.

Post some pictures and inspire the rest of us to get busy. Above all have a safe weekend what ever you decide to do.

I am still working on getting the guest room closet done replacing some of the plywood subfloor and drywall from some minor water damage. I got the new plywood in and the and the drywall in and taped and mudded so it is ready for final sanding. I picked up some cheap wood laminate flooring  at Home depot and then will have to instal some trim. I also have a wooden clock that I am repairing for a guy at church. It is a hand made clock using large exposed gears and and such with a large pendulum hanging down. Kind of hard to explain but I will shot some pics when I get it done. It was hanging on the wall in his house and it got knocked off the wall and broke in a couple of places. The repairs are easy. The hard part is trying to figure out how the parts all go back together. After that I have to build a new headboard for my daughter as we moved her old pedestal bed with drawers underneath into the guest room and she wanted to change things up in her room. She wants something similar to what I made for my wife but she wants to paint it. So it will be made from Home Depot lumber which will make my wallet happy.

Lookin' good John. Today, I don't know what is into me but I'm clenaing the shop from top to bottom. If I walkm into the shop I come out dusty so its time for Fall cleaning. I even wahed the windows! Tomorrow we're taking the three grand-daughters to a local festival and since my beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish are playing Michigan tomorrow night I'll be parked in front of the tube. Sunday is church and Colts but I may sneak a bit of shop time in to start a batch of challenge coin displays. My neighbors buddy is in re-hab in Texas and needs a display.

Well so far today it's been magnets. I have had a bunch of tiny pieces of wood that are cluttering my boxes of wood up, so I decided that since I also have a bunch of 3/8" bare rare earth magnets scattered all over my fridge, I would spend a bit of turning time cleaning a bit of that stuff up.

ning-000-0002-00-23602-71.jpg?width=721Just a piece of spalted Oak about the size of a silver dollar (the old ones).

I am also waiting on a customer to send me a bottle that he wants a case made for, then I can see what exactly I need for wood to make the case.

If that doesn't happen, I will be making pens this weekend to get what has been laying around about a year, finally made up, including a Nuveou Scepter (I'm not sure on the exact spelling on that). That should just about cover the weekend, but if not I will also be making up some more toothpick/needle cases and maybe some a bit larger for pill boxes, but we'll see.

Ron, you don't have to do all that spring cleaning in the fall just cause I am coming up. I know you are trying to get the shop to look like that picture we saw once with nothing laying out. I don't mind getting dusty when I visit in a couple of weeks.
