October 2, 201213 yr I know that our pattern designers often wonder how their patterns are perceived. Well, I for one know exactly how one of Gayle Mortenson's patterns was perceived. Permit me to give a little background. This past weekend, I did a show in Duluth, GA. I had Gayle's "911 Remembered" displayed. On Sunday, before the church crowd started coming in, a "young" lady came into our display. She was instantly drawn to "911 Remembered". I gave her a little background into the pattern, showing her the badge 911 on the standing fireman, the fallen hat on the ground, the 343 badge number on the fallen hat. She asked me why 343. I explained that it was meant for the 343 fallen New York firemen that lost their lives on 9/11/2001. With that, she started to cry. When she got it together, she explained that she was there during those awful times - had heard the bagpipes - had heard the final bell. She bought the piece and explained that she really didn't know if the piece would stay with her or was distined to go to someone else. All she knew that somehow, this piece was what drew her to the Duluth Fall Festival this year. Below is a picture of the piece she purchased. Gayle, thank you so much for the rendering. Just wanted to let y'all know that your/our efforts are NOT in vain. Fredaka Pop's Shopwww.pops-shop.comEX-21 (Presently on the floor. October 2, 201213 yr It's rewarding to know that a piece of your work has that kind of affect on someone, and sometimes that means more than the financial rewards. GregScroll Saw forum hosthttp://www.thesawdustfactoryga.com/

October 3, 201213 yr Fred, isn't that true of our impact on folks lives also. I don't think we will realize the roles we have played until after we have passed.Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
October 3, 201213 yr Author Greg - Financial rewards? Â I was ready to GIVE it to her.Ron - I agree completely - And it is the little things that we do all the time that have that effect - Random acts of kindness, a smile, a heartfelt handshake, a pat on the back, a hug - they all add up, in my opinion. Â I still remember those things from folks that have passed. Â They have shaped my life in more ways than I can think of at this time.As I have heard, "Love your enemies - and drive them nuts."Fredaka Pop's Shopwww.pops-shop.comEX-21 (Presently on the floor.
