October 5, 201213 yr Well it has been a busy morning and I am just now getting this post up. Today was grandparents day at one of my grand children's school. Got to watch the kids put on a great program. They started off with the Pledge of Allegiance, Pledge to the Christian Flag and pledge to The Bible. Fun watching them grow up learning good morals and values and to respect their Country. So this morning was busy and then tonight I have First Friday here in Florence, AL. Finished up three large cutting boards to put back into inventory before tonight. Hoping for a big evening. Weather is going to be cooler tonight here so I am hoping it will bring out a crowd with money in their pockets to spend. Sorry about the streaks in the last one, that is where I had wiped on the oil and the light caught it. That is not a place in the wood. Early in the morning, we will be packing the truck for a little road trip to Indiana. I am hoping that it won't be too cold in the new truck. We are looking forward to a vacation time and getting to see our friends, Ron and Dorthy Dudleston Looking forward to getting to check out Ron's shop and getting to see a little of Indiana. So what is on your agenda for this weekend? You know we at The Patriot Woodworker want to know what you are working on. So share with us your weekend plans. Will you get some shop time, yard time, HDL, R&R or travel time? Share it with us along with Pictures if you have them. I'll be on the road early in the morning, North bound and down, a long way to go and a short time to get there! See ya later..... from Indiana John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

October 5, 201213 yr I'm practicing my tour guide skills for John and Beth's visit. How's this, "On your left is flat land and on your right is flat land. Oh look, a corn stalk!" It's gonna be a hoot to get together with the Moody's but I hope the Hoosier state is ready for the excitement.Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
October 5, 201213 yr The case parts and veneer have all been thicknessed and cut to proper size for son's brief case. It'll be maple for the case sides and mesquite veneer bordered by walnut stringing over 1/4" Baltic Birch for the bottom and top. I'll be trying something new for this case....wood hinges and a scroll sawed set of initials filled with Inlace. The initials will be centered on the top. When it's assembled, but minus the hardware and lining, I'll take it to my friends body shop and have it sprayed with a couple coats of clear auto paint. I saw a huge floor standing humidor fellow PWW, Bill Wyko is building, and he had portions already sprayed with clear auto paint. It looks phenomenal. Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton

October 5, 201213 yr Well, I finished up making the pegs for a friend's spinning wheel. The first time I have used the lathe in almost 2 years. Of course it took me a bit of time to dig it out from under the piles of stuff. :-) I also got the threshold sized, stained, finished and installed in the guest room closet. This was the last thing to complete the work of removing the carpet, subfloor and some drywall due to some minor water damage.I started to make a platform to sit my water storage barrels on to keep them off the ground at the side of the house. The frame is 2x4 PT lumber and the top is exterior grade plywood. It was nothing spectacular but I did get to break out my framing nailer and scared the daylights out of the dog. Today I got the platform primed and tomorrow I will get it painted. Today I emptied out my wife's shed that she stored school stuff in and moved it over about 6' and rotated it so I got more room on the side of the house for storage for the barrels, patio heaters and extra patio chairs. Before putting my wife's stuff back into the shed it got swept and then I sprayed some bug stuff to deal with spiders. She found a few Black Widows in there the last time she she was in there. After letting it dry I moved everything back in as it is all in big tubs and boxes.Next large project is making a head board for my daughter. I have to get the platform done and then I can go get the lumber for the head board. It should only take me a couple of days to get it built and then a few more days to put the finish on it.Allen WorshamCorona, CAallenworsham@earthlink.net'Graze in every man's field, but always give your own milk' J. October 7, 201213 yr Author Yea Fred that was when I was studying to be a brain surgeon, but then I went into woodworking! Phil, maybe next trip we can plan that out and slide over your way. Ron and Dorthy have been showing us all the flat land here in Indiana. Ron pointed out that you could see chicago from his front door. I think he was pulling me leg. He took me out to his shop for about two minutes and wouldn't let me look at his wood stash. I am thinking some of it may have come from my stash when he came through in March and he is hiding it from me. I may slip out there when he takes his afternoon nap, but don't tell him.
