My Trip to Tule Peak Timber

Featured Replies

Last weekend I make a trip to Tule Peak Timber to see my buddy Rob Durfos and to drop off a couple owl boxes. He has some Owls who took up residency on his property! They are very cool. Not only are they just flat out awesome looking, they keep the rodent population down around Rob's property and business.

I love going up to Rob's place, for two main reasons. The drive is very nice. It's only about 45 minutes from my home but I go through windy road country to get there and it's just fun getting out of the city limits for a few hours.

And, it's always a pleasure to see Rob and take a walk through his shop and business area. His work is just flat out cool. While there this past weekend I met one of his customers, and Rob showed off to the both of us a wonderful door/gate he is fabricating for another customer and as usual, the work is insane.

When you drive up onto his property you see the vast expanse of stacked and stick'rd slabs of all types of lumber. One of the first things he showed me was a couple massive Claro Walnut trees that he just received via flatbed truck from Northern CA. He is getting ready to slab those out unless he already has this past week. He showed me a couple slabs of Claro that were a knock out. And he showed me some very interesting White Walnut or known as Orchard Walnut. He gave me a big old End Table size chunk of 12/4 by about 24" tall and 24" wide kiln dried to have fun with. I might have to seriously consider the White Walnut for chairs, as it has some pretty impressive grain though you cannot see it in the photo.

If your ever in need of some wonderful lumber for some serious furniture making, and your in So Cal, look up Rob Durfos of Tule Peak Timber, and if you have any custom architectural mill work you want done, that is the mainstay of his livelihood. Just see his work at Tule Peak Timber.

Thanks again Rob.

By the way folks, here are the owl boxes we made for Rob, Rob has thrown lumber our way frequently, and the least we could do is get him some owl boxes that his feathered friends so desperately needed. I believe we owe Rob another box too.

Be quite a jaunt for me, but I'd sure like to get out that way some day. Tule Peak timber would be a great place to visit.

Hey Phil, how would you slice this for the Dulcimers. Do you personally have the capacity to re-saw a slab like this for a dulcimer?

Hey Gene, if your ever out this way let me know a couple weeks in advance. Depending on how busy Robs shop is at the time we might be able to squeeze in a nice tour. Sometimes he is in-accessible due to his extremely busy work. It's incredible the work that goes through that place. Recession? Not his clients.
