October 8, 201213 yr Hi all. I am looking for a tap that is 1"x 8TPI I have looked everywhere I know to look and have run out of ideas. What I am finding is 1"x10 to 12TPI not 8. There is a great video of something that I have wanted for a while and have finally found a way to get it IF I can find a 1"x8 TPI Tap. Basically it's called a Soft touch, It's a piece of wood that can be threaded onto your live tail center to keep from marring a wood item that you are working on. It's basically a Jam chuck that threads onto the revolving tail stock I ask for 1"x8TPI because that is the size of threads that I have access to from PSI Here's the video, he uses a different size for his lathe Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks

October 8, 201213 yr Author Exactly like that Greg  I looked there but didn't see it, maybe my search params were off As a matter of fact that is basically a soft touch right there under and beside it. October 8, 201213 yr Charles, I've seen the 1" x 8 TPI taps on ebay occasionally. This is the same size Delta used for years, on the 11" and 12" lathes. Â Larry Old Woodworking Machinery Forum Host
October 8, 201213 yr Author Thanks Larry, Basically my search went bad on WoodCraft because I searched for Tap & Die instead of spindle tap so it brought up everything but this. Not WoodCraft's fault that I didn't use the right search term . I'll look around on ebay too but most likely I'll go with WoodCraft simply for warrantyLarry Buskirk said: Charles, I've seen the 1" x 8 TPI taps on ebay occasionally. October 9, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the info Arlin! I wont need yours, I will go ahead and buy one, but yea I needed that info on the 7/8's hole to get the 1" threads right. I thought that's what it was but wasn't sure, thanks for clarifying!Hey Arlin, I see by email that you sent me a message on TPW but I never got the actual message, just the email saying you sent a message and a chopped version of it.Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks

October 9, 201213 yr Author Wow thanks guys for the great responses, and thank you Ron also for the entire page of different taps, seeing as I will eventually get more than 1 size. I think we can call this case closed Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks
