October 12, 201213 yr Author Thought that was where i was.    The iron on this "Bandit special" says "Made In West Germany"   so that kind of dates this plane.    Weird frog, and frog base.   Even the chip breaker is different.  Just a couple photos, before this tired old puppy go to bed for the day ( gotta work tonight as well) strange frogs a-hopping around these parts... Iron works is even stranger...I wonder IF I could replace that red plastic knob with a Brass one? I guess that is called a "Lever cap". Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'

October 12, 201213 yr i wouldn't know a reason you couldn't replace it. It would probably look better too and last longer.Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks
October 14, 201213 yr Author  made some progress on this little plane.  That iron is only 1-3/4" wide, and is a tight fit.    Them red handles may stay, don't know yet.   Dug out a few tools this morning and went to work..Got the iron cleaned and almost sharpened back up.  Took all the bolts, and gave them a spin in a drill, with a purple scratchy pads.    Beltsander was also set up, and the frog got a work over...There was a LOT of red paint to remove.  I think you can see those bolts, and how nice they polished up.  I also polished up the cap iron.   The base where this frog sits was covered in a black "paint" (Japanning??) so, it got cleaned off as well. while the belt sander was up and running, I worked over the sides and sole of the base.   It was just a little off on the bottom...But I think it is pretty flat now.   Money shots of shavings will be awhile yet.   Seems we are in the process of moving everything in the house about forty miles to the East.     Back porch there isn't covered, bummer.   waiting on cable so I can move the Computer to the new place. Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
October 14, 201213 yr Great looking Plane. when I get the one I won on eBay, I will post it on TPW and see about the best way to fix it up. I already know though that the wood for the tote and knob are supposed to be Beechwood, but I don't know about the box itself.Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks
November 2, 201213 yr Author  Finally got a "Finished" shot of this Fulton #3 handplane: Since I have finished this one up, I have found one almost the same at an Antique mall here in town.   Same red-everywhere sort of thing, right down to that plastic knob.   Ebay also had a #5 Fulton that looked the same.    I think mine looks better, now.Â
