October 16, 201213 yr comment_22414 I use grain filler for my oak tops and usually use Brantley filler but it is hard to find. Therefore, I'm in the market for a different type. I'm reluctant to use water based filler but I'm open for anything at this point. So, here's the question, "What brand of grain filler do you use?"Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks Report
October 17, 201213 yr comment_22417 Mohawk brand is what I've used. Both Crystalac and TimberMate have great reviews but are water based. Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton Report

October 17, 201213 yr comment_22415 I haven't used fillers, but most of the things with some open grain I spray with Shellac. I do enough coats to give it a smooth finish before putting the Varnish on top of that. But I would be interested in what is out there and what most people like to use and how they use it.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com Report
