Featured Replies

I have a buddie that is giving me a Jet BD-920N metal lathe and was wondering if any of you folks have any experience and or opinions you'd care to share. Here are the specs on the Lathe:

BELT DRIVE BENCH LATHE

· Hardened and ground bedways
· Power longitudinal feed allows threading
· Standard 1-1/2" x 8 TPI spindle mount allows for many aftermarket accessories

· Tailstock is adjustable for taper cuts
· Quick-change gear box provides wide range of inch and metric threads

  • 7" four-jaw and 4" three-jaw chuck with threaded back plate
  • Face plate
  • Four-way tool post
  • Single tool post
  • Steady and follow rest
  • Metric change gears
  • Centers
  • Threading dial

I'd take it in a heart beat! I believe the control over the cutting processes would be absolutely fantastic for things like acrylic, bone and of course metal pens. In addition, you could make custom pen bushings.

Just my 2¢

Lewis that's my plan, plus I can use it for making closed end pen mandrels, trim bands, kit-less pens, etc etc... and parts for jigs and odds and ends.

That's the one John except mine is an earlier version. Mine has the older blue paint scheme. Once I get it I'll need to inspect it, clean some surface rust off of the ways and a few other places & lubricate it. Now I just need to drive north of Seattle and pick it up. I'll probably drive up Thursday or Friday. I'll have until then to figure out where to put it when I get it home.
