October 20, 201213 yr Ok folks, step up and pull the trigger, it's the last time you'll see em on the market!!! Woodpeckers One-Time Tool Pen Blank Center Finder John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Wounded Warrior Project and Homes For Our Troops
October 20, 201213 yr I saw that one but for about $8.00 you can make one out of 2 pieces of aluminum angle and some epoxy. Far less than the $29.99 plus shipping cost Woodpeckers charges. I'll have one posted in the morning with how to instructions.www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops
October 20, 201213 yr I'd love to see one on the market that is twice that size, say for bottle stoppers. I don't have any trouble finding the center of a straight piece anymore because I have a 4 jaw chuck, but for those that don't it would be cool to have.Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks
October 20, 201213 yr Ok so I couldn't wait till the morning. It took longer for the 5 minute epoxy to cure than to cut the pieces out. Materials: 1" X 1" X 6-3/4" angle aluminium         5 minute epoxy 1. With a miter gauge set to 45 deg cut a 45 deg angle on one face of the aluminum. I used my table saw but a band saw  would work. 2. Set miter gauge to 0 deg or square and cut the angled piece to 1" in length. 3. De-burr all edges of the aluminum. 4. Place the angled piece over the end of the main body (long piece) and check for fit. Scuff the mating pieces. 5. Apply 5 min. epoxy to the main body and attach angled piece to main body making sure the angled is lined up with the inside bend of the main body leaving enough room for a sharp pencil point. Once everything is aligned, clamp until epoxy is  cured. With a razor blade trim any squeeze out especially on the inside where it may prevent full seating of the blank in the gauge. Tonight I'll buff and polish my gauge up so it's pretty, but you get the idea.         1" www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops
October 20, 201213 yr You can make these things as large as needed, just use angle that has the inside angle at a sharp bend or it could prevent the stock from seating square to the sides of the gauge.Charles Nicholls said:I'd love to see one on the market that is twice that size, say for bottle stoppers. October 20, 201213 yr Charles I can make you one large enough for a bottle stopper. I can probably find some scrap at work and it would only cost you shipping cost. Let me know. www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops
October 20, 201213 yr Yep thanks that works for me. I'd be ready to pick it up around 11/3/12, so let me know:)Thanks.Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks
October 20, 201213 yr After looking at some of the products "Woodpeckers" has been producing, I believe there are woodworkers out there with a lot more disposable cash than I have.
October 20, 201213 yr I Agree Lew, when I think of all the cash I have had to lay out for what little I have, it's scary. Half the stuff you see that you need most of the time, is 3x higher priced than I thought it should be, which is why i have so little. It's an expensive hobby that only recently has started giving some returns back.Lewis Kauffman said:After looking at some of the products "Woodpeckers" has been producing, I believe there are woodworkers out there with a lot more disposable cash than I have.
