October 26, 201213 yr Making some progress on the latest two planes.   An all steel block plane by Shelton:The "Before" shot, and ..and after some clean up.   Took it in to work with me, and got rid of the rest of the rust.   The other plane?the before, with all the parts sitting around, getting the crud off of them.  And an after shot..needs a new knob up front, might get a new tote to match.   Iron still needs some sharpening work, but will make shavings right now.  Those "brass " bolts were plated a "silver" colour, until I cleaned them up, and found they were solid brass.   Looks better that way.    Just checking in.... October 30, 201213 yr Author New handles for the Craftsman #4H..Just some time on a lathe, drill a couple holes, and sand the "H" out of them.    A little drum sander, on the drill press, did a lot of the shaping on the tote.   Tried the grinder, all it did this time was burn the wood,  sanded away all the burnt areas, and just kept sanding until done.  Still need a finish on them, but that will wait until payday. Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
October 31, 201213 yr Author  Both planes are now finish, and ready to go to work...Might be a Stanley made for Sears,  a Craftsman #4H, due to the very heavy casting used as a base.  And...A small block plane, according to the stamp on the iron, a Shelton.   Looks like a Stanley #118 clone.  Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
