October 29, 201213 yr Had some time in the shop today, some water based transfast dye stain splattered up on my planes awhile back and embedded rust spots on the bodies, I broke them down today, completely, cleaned them up, rubbed them out, honed the irons and off we go! It's always a joy to have some down time to spend on your tools. Â The Veritas No.4 Smoother and the Low Angle Jack both cleaned up and looking good again! I honed the iron of my No. 4 and my low angle with the scary sharp method up to 800 grit sand paper then moved them to my combo 4000/8000 grit stone. Beautiful shavings are a joy to see! What a joy to use again! John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Wounded Warrior Project and Homes For Our Troops

October 29, 201213 yr Author Yes it is Adam, sometime I let them go a little too far in the deferred maintenance area until I just can't stand it anymore. The irons are always sharp, but the overall appearance drops over time and I like to freshen them up from time to time.Adam Welker said:A fine tuned handplane is a wonderful thing!Adam WelkerRed Car Construction and Fine WoodworkingJohn MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Wounded Warrior Project and Homes For Our Troops
