October 31, 201213 yr comment_21774 As you know I'm building new cabinets for the kitchen. I built all 26 raised panel doors about 6 weeks ago and I just finished with all the upper cabinets and hung them Monday. Tuesday I started handing doors and today I was going to finish them up. I only had two cabinets to hang the doors on and ironically all four doors were the same size. When I went to hang the first door I noticed it was 1 inch too long. The width was right but somehow I mis-measurered the length. Guess what I get to do tomorrow? Yep, build four more doors. The scary part is that I have four doors that my wife can look at and figured out what I can build to fit them. Sigh.Ron Dudelston Site Administrator Above and Beyond WoodWorks Report
October 31, 201213 yr comment_21787 It's a shame you couldn't cut an inch out of the center, shortening them and add an accent stripe of contrasting wood. Or maybe do that on the top and bottom rails.www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops Report
November 1, 201213 yr Author comment_21786 It would only be a half an inch top and bottom but the rails and stiles are 1 3/4" and I was afraid it would look weird. I figure that by tomorrow night I'll be on the road to four new ones. I don't mind re-making them but the finish time is the killer.Mike Dillen said:It's a shame you couldn't cut an inch out of the center, shortening them and add an accent stripe of contrasting wood. November 1, 201213 yr comment_21783 Huummmm, I thought I was the only one doing things like that. The first of the green egg tables I built I forgot to cut the end pieces to finished length. How lucky could I have been that when I just squared them up I cut them all the same. I didn't realize I had not cut the to finished length till I laid the pieces to the top out and it wasn't wide enough. Had to make one more slat, adjust the size of all of them to give me equal pieces and the right amount of hang over. I recovered and no one till now knew it was my mistake.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com Report
