November 2, 201213 yr November first and the chill is in the air as we are in the fall season. I love this time of year with all of the wonderful colors in the trees and the beautiful blue sky. It is a great time to get to work in the shop and not have to have heat or air. It is comfortable and enjoyable. I will finish up the 2nd Green Egg Table this weekend, finish the slats for the third porch swing that I had to come to and end on and start the panels for a cedar chest. Lot to get done this weekend and I hope I can get it all pushed through. Tonight I will be setup for First Friday Craft Show in downtown Florence. We only have one more after this one which will be the first Friday in December and the official lighting of the Christmas lights. This was my booth last month and we had a huge crowd come by. Setup behind me was even a snow machine making artificial snow. I know many of you don't need that but it was a nice effect. So last night I put the oil on some edge grain cutting boards. This should give me a pretty good inventory for tonight. Hope we have some early Christmas shoppers or some Early Black Friday shoppers. So what's on your agenda this weekend. We here are TPW love to see the projects you are working on. Are you working in the shop, home improvement, HDL, getting ready for winter, recovering from the storms, or planing a weekend in front of the TV with some R&R. Please share your projects with us and we love to see pictures. John Moody Site Administrator John Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

November 2, 201213 yr I cleaned the rust off of the metal lathe bed and ways using Larry's method using razor blades, scotch-brite pads & WD40. Last night I tore down the 3 & 4 jaw chuck, took them to work and cleaned them up in the hot tank. This morning I lubed and reassembled the chucks and they're smooth as glass. Wednesday I finished tearing down & de-rusting the carriage & I lubed and re-assembled the carriage this morning. This afternoon I'll concentrate on the gear train and tomorrow I'll probably pull the motor and clean it up. After 2 cans of WD40 4 scotch brite pads several layers of skin on my fingers and about 40 hours of labor the lathe will have all the rust removed and no signs of pitting on any machined surfaces, just some small stains. I'm hoping to have it operational next weekend. The only part I have to replace is a drive belt. Not bad at all for a free lathe! here's the before and after. www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops

November 4, 201213 yr Well just got back late last night from Missouri and slept late this morning. Hopefully this is last trip this year and maybe now can start getting back to normal here. The wife mother's house finally closed and now we need to wait few more weeks on the probate court to do there thing. Normally a 6 to 7 hour drive home ended up being about 10 hr drive. She wanted to see several her old aunt and uncle that live in the area for they all are getting up in age and not doing too well either. Do have a few projects on the bench but they are small and would not take long to do are finish. Still need to finish the cutting board, practice on the dove tail jig and practice on Grizzly band saw on re-sawing. I do have one Christmas project I want to make for my nephew who is in the Coast Guard in Florida which I did get the plan for but need to gather up the wood material for it. Did price the lumber out if I order it and it little more than I thought. So looking thru my lumber rack to see if I have enough to do it. I'll know later this week.  Wayne EWayne E
November 5, 201213 yr Author Well I got the Green Egg Table finished and delivered this weekend. And got a pretty good start on the next porch swing. Got most of the slats cut and planed to the right size so hopefully I will get it finished next weekend. I got the bottom supports cut out and I have the back supports marked and ready to run through the band saw. Oh and by the way, I got the lock changed at the wood stash also. LOL. Got to sit down for a while on Saturday night and enjoy some football. Roll Tide Roll!!!!! How about the rest of you, how did you fair on your projects this past weekend. Were you able to bring them all to fruition? Share some updated pictures. John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
