What are those threaded holes for?

Featured Replies

Got a set of 1, 2, 3 blocks today. I'm guessing all the holes are to cut down on weight. But, what are the threaded ones for? Probably for a machinist's use but, could they be useful for woodworking?

Another question: I noticed that everyone sells them in sets of two. Why?

Does anyone want my spare?

What kind of blocks are you talking about? I don't understand.

Harry, They are steel blocks 1" thick, 2" wide and 3" long. Bunch of holes in them. I'll use them for router, drill press and saw set ups in conjunction with some key way stock.

I had made one out of oak but somebody thought it was scrap and tossed 'it. Dunno who done that.ning-lol022-21671-77.gif

Pardon my ignorance but what are you guys talking about?

Exactly, Richard.

Mine came from Grizzly. A set of two.

My son says the threaded holes are to bolt them together. And, two of them allow for a work piece to be held up at the same height.

Oh god yes.

They can be bolted to each other to create angles upon which you can affix any number of little jigs to hold difficult to grasp work in very precise fixed  positions  while passing the work through any milling or drilling operation.

I have a 6" machinist's angle block I made a gozillion years ago that I shot full of  tapped holes.  It is enormously useful in the DP and the TS and the Router table.
