Hot off the saw Mon. Nov. 5

Featured Replies

Well the first week of Nov. is gone and the time has changed too, I don't know about everybody else but I don't care much about the whole getting dark early thing. So what's everybody been up to this past week? We did the market again Sat. , foot traffic was slow, but sales were decent. we've got 5 more to do then it will be time to clean up the shop and wind down for a few days. I cut about 50 "God bless our troops" ornaments this past week, I'll get a picture up later. Anybody else got anything to show off?

Well I had a show this weekend. I wasn't about to be there due to work but my mother ran it for me.  Made some ok money.  over double booth free but sales down from previous years.  My newest ornaments, segmentation sold out in a few hours. only had 15, and could have sold many more I believe.  So hot off my saw I'm making more.

ning-bellseg-21582-44.jpg?width=721ning-doveseg-21582-54.jpg?width=721Cut from poplar, cherry, cypress, walnut, and cedar.  Stack cut the 5 woods. then edge glue.  once it drys I sanded them smooth and finished clear coat of sanding sealer and lacquer.  Since these 2 were so popular I have started to design some other patterns and hope to have at least a dozen of each.  patterns I'm working on are : and Angel, leaves, heart, mushroom, fish, and a dolphin.  since I resaw and plan my own thin stock now this opens up a lot more possibilities and it complements my intarsia.

JOE - I LOVE 'EM - great idea - really interesting how the different woods fit together - AND - you do them 5 at a time.  Great time saver.

For me, I finished up a few things that I have orders for.  The three I want to show off are in the pix below.  Cut from 3/4" Red Oak and they are 17" in diameter.  Outside "rope" and background are stained with English Chestnut.  Hope the recipients like them.  YES - I had to put the Air Force First.  :)

Great to see some pics here. Joe, those ornaments are fantastic, and Fred I'm sure whoever is getting those plaques will love them.

ning-000-0004-21578-49.jpg?width=721I'm not real great yet at making bells but this is one that I worked on yesterday while I could sit up, it doesn't take long to make either which is good. I will probably try and finish it in the morning. It's made from nearly dry Apple wood. I'm sure I will get better at it. as a lot have said, it just takes time and practice. I'll probably make it smaller and then finish and put a small brass eye screw in it. Good night all and stay safe!

Thanks Greg, I'm not sure if I want to try hollowing it out or not but that is an option if I get it mounted on the lathe straight.
