Yet another desk update, not good

Featured Replies

Got word today that the person using the desk wants the  "under the desk shelf" moved up 5 inches.

I'm guessing that is not the shelf that is laying under the computer? Wow five inches is a lot of change.

But, hey they know you are the best and can pull it off if anyone can.

The is one of the hazards of working some where like the School District. Even though the shelf was put in the place specified when the customer can change their minds at will and the have to pay nothing.

I hear ya Richard. Wife and I spent 37 years among "customers" like that. You must have the patience of Job.

I thought you meant the drawer.

The foot rest?

That's easy. Build a little riser and screw it in place  from beneath.  Maybe with a sloped lead edge as a footrest?

Make a show of getting under the desk while he or she is trying to place his feet so you can measure the ideal height.   I'd be shocked and amazed if 5" is the actual dimension the customer needs. Rather I suspect it's just their subjective impression.

I'd bet once you do that, you'll have to change it a second time.....

No Ref

Rich, this brings back so many memories when I was working in the Carpenter Maintenance shop at Sea World of San Diego. Crazy aint it! Judging by the size of the desk it appears the inhabitant has some pull around the area! So you'd better get that shelf up there and right! LOL

We use to run into this all the time, even after I would spend an hour with the recipient planning it, they would change their mind after the install.

Or, I could not get much information from them at all about what they wanted, it sometimes looked like they thought I was wasting their time asking them all these questions about where they want a shelf, how high up, where do they want the hole in the top for the cables, where are they going to place the PC etc, they would say, your the carpenter I trust you! Then when I present them with what I came up with, it was all wrong! It was quite the challenge sometimes.

Keep on truckin Rich!

Sometimes it helps, if only psychologically, to have the "client" approve and sign off on drawings.

The "client" in this case is the Senor CEO of Human Resources. He's the one you go see when you get in hot water. He decides if you keep you job or if you go.
