November 13, 201213 yr Got word today that the person using the desk wants the  "under the desk shelf" moved up 5 inches. Somewhere in Kenya.... a village is missing its idiot! Alaskans for Gobble Warming
November 13, 201213 yr I'm guessing that is not the shelf that is laying under the computer? Wow five inches is a lot of change. But, hey they know you are the best and can pull it off if anyone can.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

November 13, 201213 yr Author The is one of the hazards of working some where like the School District. Even though the shelf was put in the place specified when the customer can change their minds at will and the have to pay nothing.   Somewhere in Kenya.... a village is missing its idiot! November 14, 201213 yr I hear ya Richard. Wife and I spent 37 years among "customers" like that. You must have the patience of Job. Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton
November 19, 201213 yr I thought you meant the drawer. The foot rest? That's easy. Build a little riser and screw it in place from beneath. Maybe with a sloped lead edge as a footrest?Make a show of getting under the desk while he or she is trying to place his feet so you can measure the ideal height.  I'd be shocked and amazed if 5" is the actual dimension the customer needs. Rather I suspect it's just their subjective impression.
November 23, 201213 yr Rich, this brings back so many memories when I was working in the Carpenter Maintenance shop at Sea World of San Diego. Crazy aint it! Judging by the size of the desk it appears the inhabitant has some pull around the area! So you'd better get that shelf up there and right! LOLWe use to run into this all the time, even after I would spend an hour with the recipient planning it, they would change their mind after the install.Or, I could not get much information from them at all about what they wanted, it sometimes looked like they thought I was wasting their time asking them all these questions about where they want a shelf, how high up, where do they want the hole in the top for the cables, where are they going to place the PC etc, they would say, your the carpenter I trust you! Then when I present them with what I came up with, it was all wrong! It was quite the challenge sometimes.Keep on truckin Rich!John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Wounded Warrior Project and Homes For Our Troops
November 23, 201213 yr Sometimes it helps, if only psychologically, to have the "client" approve and sign off on drawings. Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton
November 24, 201213 yr Author The "client" in this case is the Senor CEO of Human Resources. He's the one you go see when you get in hot water. He decides if you keep you job or if you go.  Gene Howe said:Sometimes it helps, if only psychologically, to have the "client" approve and sign off on drawings. Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.'
