November 14, 201213 yr Just a small $5 metal box I found at a garage Sale last summer..A little rusty?   Ah, but what was inside this little metal box?It had a metal name plate...some sort of angle finder thingy...A "groovy" bottom, almost like a handplane"s??and a 6" blade, with a diamond knock out hole to mount it to this little trim saw.  Main problem with it was it would not start.   Checked the brushes.....still lots of life left in them.   Looked at the cord, ok, seems something isn't quite right.   Cord coming out of the saw is a three wire, the plug is a two prong thingy.   Underneath the old white plastic tape...green wire was hooked to the black wire, the two white wires were connected, and the black from the saw???   Just sitting there.   I had a "proper" plug, and cut the old mess off.   Took maybe 15 minutes to install this....Ohm meter said everything works, plug the saw into a breaker guarded outlet.   Didn't see any sparks, breaker didn't blow, and...... the saw runs like a champ!   Now I have a nice little trim saw, with a "case" to carry it around with.   It does have a short 48" cord (now) but that's alright. Now, about that box????Needs a "restore", but how to do it?  What flavour of "Green"?   how to keep that label??   Box weighs as much as the saw.. November 14, 201213 yr Nice find. You might use some tracing paper and trace out the label. Use electrolysis to clean up the box and then paint it. If you want the same paint, take the box to a local paint store and have it matched. Is there some place on the box that has not been exposed to the elements, such as under a hinge? If so, that would be your best bet. You can leter use the tracing to make a stencil and paint the label back on or make a water slide decal. My job is to give my kids things to discuss with their therapist
November 16, 201213 yr Author  Might take this up to the local JVS School, and see wait those Juniors & Seniors can do with it.  Just the box, though.   The saw will need a new blade, someday.     Runs like a top.   Just means i now have two "Vintage" old metal circ. saws.    This one by SKIL, and a 7-1/4"  from Sears Craftsman.  The Sears one didn't have a case with it.    Maybe see IF those JVS kids could do an "Up-sized" box for it?  Or, should I just make a wooden box for it? Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
