Friday, November 16th, What's on Your Woodworking Agenda

Featured Replies

We had a successful 1st Annual Wood Turning Contest with the winners being announced this past week, We had our 1000th member join the site. What a great week we just experienced.

So as for this weekend, I have a two day craft show starting this evening at 5:00 and ending tonight at 8:00 and then Saturday from 8:00 till 8:00 so it will be a long day. After this one, I have two more and my season will be over till March of next year. Doesn't mean I won't have work in the shop, just not for the shows for a while.

So I had to fill in a little inventory this week for this show. Last night I finished up several cutting boards.

Sunday afternoon, I will be turning the pens for the turn for troops and then back on the porch swings to try to finish them up before Christmas.

So what have all of you Patriot Woodworkers got going on this middle of November weekend. Are you working on Christmas projects to finish up, craft shows, HDL, Home Improvement, or catching a little football (my Alabama Crimson Tide got beat last week), or getting in some final workouts before gearing up for Black Friday? You know we here at TPW always are interested in what you are working on so please share your projects and pictures with us.

Have a great weekend and make some saw dust!

I've got 5 mail box doors that need a wooden box...I'm getting started on them this weekend (I hope).

Sweet design on the boards, John. Good luck at the show. I can't do a 12 hour stint, anymore. Cuts into my nap time.

I'll be dry fitting son's gun box/briefcase today. Maybe even get it glued up. Then, sanding and cut it apart tomorrow. It will have a wood hinge, so after cutting it apart, I'll need to fit the hinge. Scary! With all the time and effort already in this project, I really need to be on my game to get that hinge fitting perfectly.

Working on the settee and a walnut rocker! Making some great progress today and hopefully tomorrow. Thanks for asking John!

It was a great week indeed John!

Still catching up on orders.  Shipped 6 out today.  Got a special order from our high leader that will ship out on Monday.  Putting the finishing touches on a Lichterbogen and a special quarter map and a wedding plaque and a nativity set.  Other than that, I am getting my naps in - sorry Greg.

Hi Fred. Any chance you can post pics of the Lichterbogen? Is yours going to be wired or candled? What's the theme? I've seen a few Nativities and several generic reindeer and fir tree scenes. They sure are pretty.

Got the briefcase glued up....mostly. All the mesquite worm holes are filled with turquoise and sanded flat. Still have to fit the walnut border inlay and do some joint feathers. But, I think I'm done for the day.

Tomorrow, the inlay will be done and if nap time doesn't interfere, maybe the feathers, too, We'll see.

Had a pretty good show but 12 hours is a long time. Two more and the season is over for me. Need to get started ONI next year a little earlier.

Great looking set of boards John.

I've got a bunch of pens to turn this weekend, 15 for the troops and several to turn that are already sold but first I have to locate my bench and counter tops in my shop.

Gene - here is a picture of my Lichterbogan.  It is wired.  Depending on customer's needs, the lights are either battery operated with 15 lights or 110AC with 20 lights.

That's absolutely beautiful, Fred!

Out of curiosity, do you know the significance of the 7 lights in the arc?

ound the problem with the Dulcimer. The wood I used "Maple" was not strong enough to keep the strings from going starte through them. So after going through my little wood stash. I came up with some Hickory, and made some end cuts. Now I almost have two new nuts made to try again. Then I am not sure what I going to do next.

Glad you got'er fixed, Phil. Hickory should be tough enough, right? And, don't worry about what's next. There's always something.

Got 1/2 of the border inlay done on the case, yesterday. I'm slow but, I'm not too good at planning, either.

That's surprising Phil. I would have though maple would be used on guitars all the time.

Hope this works out for you. I am hoping to hear it.
